Those "tributes" are maddening, not because they are the wrong cars, but because they get the little details wrong. Those engine cover "Powered By Honda" stickers cut up and stuck on the nose, the three Segafredo Zanetti stickers apropos of nothing, the random Shell logos on top of the sidepods, the Renault badge, the Magneti Marelli logos all the wrong size and stuck everywhere. Even the ones they get "right" are slightly the wrong size and in ever so slightly the wrong place.

If someone wanted to kill Ron Dennis, they wouldn't need to waste their money on a hitman. Just email him those photos.

This one qualifies as a team updating an older car with modern livery AND a car mis-branding another team's car:

The tacky chrome wheels actually make it look more like a Penske Indycar from the early 90s than a Mclaren...

By the way, what car is that, actually? Looks like a 1989-1991 model. I'm thinking Larrousse-Lola LC89 or LC90.

It's an 89 Eurobrun but with a McLaren style rear-wing and nose grafted on

Ah, right! It looks quite nice, indeed, both in its original Jägermeister and the Marlboro livery.

This probably belongs here:

Can I interest anyone in an incongruous Lola 8900?

If I'd had the money (and that it hadn't already been sold)... yes! The last F1 car with a manual gearbox!
Would've need a lot of work to get it back to more original spec (front wing??), but if I'd had the money to buy an F1 car, I'd probably have enough to do that as well :)

I hope the new owner is enough of an enthusiast to want it back in Forti yellow and blue.

I really dislike this. Seeing stuff like 1996 Ferrari taped over to look like modern Ferrari and stuff like that, urgh. That Honda, Brawn and Merc timeperiod is also really often up there in the confusing but wrong category.

I also seen so many pictures of one those Lotuses that Kimi drove being made up to look something else.

Thoroughly shocked and disappointed that nobody’s cracked a Racing Point/Mercedes or Redbull/Toro Rosso joke yet

Seeing how until the Fortarri (Ferti?) was posted here, it was pre-season 2020 the last time anyone posted. So I think that no-one jumped on tRP is excused. But RB/TR, Honda/Super Aguri or Arrows/Super Aguri on the other hand!

That's because we're having a grown up conversation here.

The Macca 2 seater lives again!

(isn't it silly how a 2 seater f1 has a much shorter wheelbase than a modern single seat version.....)

How drole.

No, I am pretty confident that the Mclaren 2 seater from ~1998 is infact shorter than a contemporary F1 car.

Trusting that the dimensions of human heads and crash helmets have not shrunk massively since the late 90's, the 2019 Merc is objectively a much bigger car.

I don't know if it still there, but there used to be an "exploded" car at Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands.  It was supposed to be Mercedes so there was a Merc V8, but I got suspicious when I noticed that the bag tank was branded "British American Racing".  Given that bag tanks are lifed, would any true Mercedes F1 car have been using old BAR stock?  I doubt it.  So quite what this exploded car was is a mystery to me - maybe just a bitsa?

Sounds like a “bitsa” to me. Probably a BAR-Honda but with a Mercedes engine to reflect the ownership at the time the car was put on display.

Should be illegal and prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and on top, all persons involved should be banished for life from F1.

On the other hand, you could probably power the whole of Italy if you could harness the kinetic energy of Enzo Ferrari spinning in his grave.

That was my thought but in this article from the Daily Fail ( :well: ) it is claimed to have been Schumacher's  W01.

I remember seeing the Honda version on a TV show. I can't believe it got Mercedesfied, it just seems a weird thing to do, almost on a plagiarism level.

I'm impressed at how they managed to fit the silver paintbrushes between all of those fiddly wires.

I am still trying to get my head around people willingly paying good money to sit at the O2 in a few weeks time and watch what is just a glorified  livery launch.

Never understood the degree of fascination some people have around what color scheme is on the car.

Makes more sense than people willingly painting a Eurobrun as a McLaren.

Something like that

The more I look at it, the more I do like it. It doesnt look like a proper F1 car and it is tacky to emulate a McLaren, but somehow it has grown upon me over the past couple of years.

Over 3 years late, but I have to comment on the caption. It reads “Senna’s McLaren for all to see - replica on display at Pinheiros Expressway”. Good ol’ Brazilian broadcasters treating their viewers as ignorants
