I’m a bit surprised by Russell and Ricciardo’s scores. Russell was in there with the tail end of the midfield all race, and Ricciardo was comfortably ahead of Ocon all weekend and looked good for a strong race. Not sure what more either could have done really.

Verstappen getting equal score to Albon is also a bit odd to me. I felt Albon could have won this race, but he was certainly outperformed by Max throughout the weekend too, only really coming to life once he had that tyre advantage.

I also would have probably given Vettel a lower score than Latifi in the battle of worst driver of the weekend. Latifi didn’t show much pace through the weekend but it was his first race and he didn’t embarass himself. Vettel on the other hand with that spin didn’t recover, he only got back in the points because of others misfortune.

Yeah, looks better thought out especially with the retired drivers.

No he meant Hamilton. Got two penalties which should have been much bigger. Clumsy all weekend.

Autosport not paying full attention to Kimi again - "he seemed to be rooted towards the back of the pack at the time."

What utter nonsense, he was quicker than Gio but lost out because the first SC was called just after his stop under racing conditons.

I didn’t say so last season, so I’ll say it here - I really appreciated you doing that aggregated scores grid last year, Marklar.

Edd Straw disagrees with you, but what does he know? According to him it's a 7 for HAM and a 3,5 for VET. I rest my case.

Giovinazzi 8.0

What did I miss? I saw Kimi faster the entire race and were it not for the bad stop during SC and later his wheel falling off...

Absolutely! At first I thought Marklar hadn't responded yet, but then I saw Yoda had transformed into a cat and he was actually the OP.

Regarding the ratings; some really inexplicable ones out there. Rai/Gio is in the wrong order in all of them. Leclerc was good, but I don't know if it warrants this amount of praise? Though he didn't do much wrong I suppose. Albon equal to or above Verstappen is laughable.

I think Norris was the real star of the show with that amazing last lap, going from over 6 seconds behind Lewis to just under 5. The enigma however is how the ultimate pace of the Ferrari in the second half of the race was relative to the McLaren.

Norris getting a 10 and Sainz a 7 make no sense, Sainz race pace was about as good and was pretty much the entire race in dirty air behind another car. Starting way back, almost overtook Norris in the later stages.

Wow Kimi getting shafted by these reviews. He passed Gio once, was faster and would passed again if the wheel would not break off.

Yeah it seems Kimi is responsible for milling the wheel nuts of his car.

Albon also seems to be holding on to his sympathy points this year. Easy to forget he was 0,4 seconds per lap slower than Max on a faster tyre, I guess.

It seems these so-called "raters" never watched the race and only look at the results. If a meteor strikes someone's car in the first lap, it's automatic 4/10.

In that case; let's close this topic and take Edd's word for it

Giving Lewis a 7, while getting his fastest lap taken away, ignoring yellows and forcing another driver off track is generous

With Albon getting high ratings obviously the concensus is that the incident with Lewis is not his fault.

I'd go with the consensus of what the regulars here want, but I personally think it would be interesting to consider.

Pity points. He was much slower than Verstappen, yet there are same or even better scores.

The most baffling thing about it is that unlike Autosport, he knew Kimi being behind Gio wasn't his fault, but still marked him down anyway!

Clearly, he should've lept out of the car and changed the tyres himself

Norris also got an 8 from The Independent. Seems legit, I mean it was only the lad's maiden podium which he grabbed after a brilliant move against a Pink Mercedes, fending off a late charge by his teammate and scoring the fastest lap of the race on worn tires in the very last lap. Nothing special indeed  :stoned:  :drunk:

Well I don't blame them if they can't follow each and every driver closely, but Räikkönen's Sunday was certainly shaping up to be a 9 drive before an ill timed SC and the loose wheel nut stroke.

I would argue it's their job to do just that. They don't seem to spend more than 5 seconds per driver.

Bit of generosity towards Latifi, Hamilton, Ocon and Perez.

Latifi and Ocon were some way off their teammates all weekend, in qualifying and the race they were so far behind, a 5 for both I would say.

Seeing a lot of 8 ratings for Perez. Not sure why. He ended up 6th in a car slightly faster than the McLaren and Ferrari but ended up behind 3 of them. He also received a penalty for speeding in the pitlane on top of that. Not a bad weekend from him, but an 8 is stretching it.

Hamilton finishing 4th in a car quite far ahead in performance to the rest of the grid while incurring 2 penalties, along with his original Q3 laptime being deleted doesn't warrant a 7 for me.

It was quite odd, if anything Raikkonen was quicker in the race and might very well have been in Q as well if it wasn't for Ricciardo going slightly off right in front of him....

It's okay, Sky agrees with you...... thats why they gave him a 7.5 :)

Outqualified by your team mate? check

Exceded track limits in your first Quali? Check

Ignored Yellows in your second and got a penalty? Check

Spun another driver in the race? Check

Never led your team mate for a single lap? Check

Your team mate went on to win? Check

7.5 it is

The Radio 5 commentary team were discussing the marks out of 10 from The Race and Autosport during FP2 a couple of days ago...

They were caught between wondering whether a 9 was too high for Bottas since he didn’t do anything miraculous and asking whether it’s harsh not to give someone a 10 if they win from pole as that’s all any driver can do... It felt like reading the Media Driver Ratings thread!

I think a 10 deserves some degree of heroism or clearly brilliant driving. Hamilton could get a 10 today based on how he perfectly contoled the race and his outstanding Q3 laps.

A 10 for Bottas last week would have been too much since he had no clear pace advantage over Lewis and was helped a lot by the SC and others having bad days.
