It's race day! After a weekend mostly notable for high temperatures, Mercedes being very fast and Sergio Perez being confined to quarters, we come to Sunday, where such meagre talking points will be vitiated, humiliated and exploded by events, competition and results.

Lucky us!

Here's the line-up from qualifying. Not featured in this table: Hamilton spun in Q2 (much good that did the rest of the field); Supersub Hulkenberg dropped out of the second session after a scruffy lap; Leclerc, Norris and arguably Gasly overperformed, Vettel and Albon underperformed. But enough rubbish. What is qualifying? A miserable little pile of secrets.

Here's a nonstylized map of the circuit:

Please, somebody fill us in on the tyre situation before I eat my own arm in despair.

UK types: by Act of Parliament the race is live on Channel 4 as well as Sky. Thank you, Ken Clarke! It's getting underway at 2pm BST. Enjoy!

Thanks TomNokoe and Risil.

I live about 60 miles from the track and it has just been raining so here’s hoping.

I was doing my own (very very basic) thread but noticed Risil had got the ball rolling.

As the crow flies, apparently I also live 60.476 miles from Silverstone, but no rain here

Looking at the photo of Silverstone makes me wonder what current active airport would make the best track if you just kicked the planes out and went for it.

The Cleveland track and the Sebrink track were pretty good...

We are currently enjoying our Virtual British GP and so far so good, despite not sitting at Stowe all our usual routines are in place.

First beer whilst enjoying the F2 race and now 2nd beer whilst watching the Porsche Super Cup and wondering why anyone bothers with the Porsche’s because at least at Silverstone it is the most boring form of Motorsport invented by man!

To really immerse us my wife is going to charge me £12 for a terrible burger and then at 1:30 I’m going to queue up for 20 minutes outside my own downstairs toilet  :rotfl:

regards Mike

Probably very few, unless you want drag strip style circuits.

Most current airports just have a couple of runways, and the old WW2 style perimeter roads are not common.

My god!  When did they demolish the Wing and move back to the old pits?  Overnight?   ;)

I reckon I could set up a pretty amazing circuit at Heathrow, if only we could rid of all those pesky airliners.

When I'm bored I like mocking up tracks in Google Maps. Airports are particularly good for this, and one of my favourites in Vaerlose in Denmark. It would be a super fast and racy circuit, and easy distance from Copenhagen if they wanted to revive the Danish GP idea!

The first British GP I won't be attending since 2010. Strange feeling.

Who'll get fourth? Long runs on Friday were kind of pointless given how much colder it is today. Hopefully that leads to some discussion points.

But the locals would complain about the noise!

The perimeter taxiways of RNAS Yeovilton would be good.

Is it just me or do race days generally become cooler than other days? Even mother nature wants Mercedes to win.

Pit stop time loss, I believe, is 18.5–20.5 seconds.

Nice idea. But the (probably) wealthy folk living here might get a large harrumph going.

If the front three could just take themselves out at the start that'd be great.

As experiment they should put them to the back of the grid next week. That would actually make an interesting race

Nice. Odd that they're giving out 70th anniversary trophies for this week's British GP and not the official Anniversary GP next weekend?

Hamilton musing on the absent fans “they’re still *there*...they’re just not *here* “ sums up the grimness and the seed of hope in the whole grim situation.

Those were probably designed before the anniversary gp existed. Got a feeling without Covid this race essentially would of been the celebration weekend.

Mother nature knows most don't watch F1 and will be looking forward to a nice day in the sun in their garden or a enjoying a bbq. can't have good weather for those.

Great piece on Moss. Such sportsmanship doesn't exist in modern F1. Sporting directors are essentially paid to deceive the stewards as much as they can. Win at all costs

Somewhat revealing.

AMuS's Michael Schmidt has said on multiple occasions how Lance isn't realizing his own but his father's dream of being an F1 driver. Apparently he himself is rather uninspired by his job.

A shame they demolished the old layout. Could have driven on that one next week otherwise.
