Hooray! Notes on the race, as best as I can understand it:
* Bottas lines up ahead of Hamilton, but how long can he keep him behind?
* Pirelli think it'll be a two-stopper, as the softer tyres this weekend are going to be pretty marginal.
* Relatedly, the battle for the midfield is looking intense, and a few drivers (starting with Hulkenberg) have qualified ahead of where they're expected to finish. How will the strategies play out?
* Max Verstappen is starting from fourth, and alone among the top 10, on the hard compound of tyre. Watch out for him doing something different?
* The continuing saga of Sebastian Vettel continues. Will he finish in the top 10 this time?
* For reasons I mostly understand, nobody is thrilled about this race. Normally in F1 this means a classic is on the cards.

Will be Lewis allowed to go for a pass on Bottas? Or will he be told to look after the car like always?

I was curious about what was number one for the first GP and discovered there’s not really an answer because of a lack of a proper singles chart. However, in sheet music sales, it’s this:
https://youtu.be/1HyLa6a7j6M
A superb song from the Rodgers & Hart musical Pal Joey. The same tune underscores the ‘Future Legend’ little Poem at the start of Diamond Dogs. So in that spirit, have a good race, peoploids.

F3 and F2 both superb ... time for F1 to deliver.
A Dutch-Japan combo so far for victories - a good omen?!

I'm looking forward to all the posts calling Lewis a No.2 driver (or worse) if he decided not to plough straight into Bottas at turn 1 and instead slot in behind, like Valtteri did last week.

Imagine this back in 2011 or 2013.

What I want:
Hulk win
Ricciardo podium
Hectic strategies
Tight battles
...but because this is F1, this is what we'll get:
Hamilton win, Bottas 2nd
No podium for Hulk
Boring race with everybody on same 2-stop strategy (Verstappen the odd one out and he'll secure P3)

It's a lot more work than I'm willing to put in at the moment, but creating a playlist of every chart topping single for every British GP would be interesting.

If it stays like it is, Bottas will perhaps have a better chance of looking after his tyres. That said, I expect Lewis to get an easy win today. He's just much better on his tyres.
Fascinated to see what Max can do on the hard tyres though, but he'll need to at least try and clear the RP. Fingers crossed for a good result from Hulk.

That might happen, but the crucial difference is that even if he doesn't win the start Lewis is more likely to mount an attack later on and most will know it. When Bottas loses the start it's pretty much over for him.

Would be very pleased if today's F3 race is an omen for the F1 race:

I am under quarantine in tropical Berlin, it was 31°C at 10 in the morning and 36°C now. (And in the morning I even thought this was reasonably agreeable )
Not sure which one is better

Because I'm currently drunk on a Greek island and I couldn't see one here is a thread for race discussion. I don't have yhe capability of making it fancy so if I've stepped on toes then delete and give me a 3 sec race penalty.
I hereby give notice of my intent to lodge a formal protest. I also want to be drunk on a Greek island.

I saw the highlights for F2 and F3. Crazy finishes to both. I wouldn't mind some spice in today's F1 race.

Bottas won't pose a serious challenge to Hamilton in an on track battle. He doesn't have the character for it. You need to bully people like Hamilton otherwise they will walk all over you. I'd love to see it though.

Oof... not being able to go outside(?) while the weather was nice and warm would be tough. Think I prefer the winter lockdown tbh!
Hope you don't have too long to wait before you get out of quarantine

It’s got to happen some time this year. The Mercs are going to start 1-2 almost constantly, eventually they’ll race close enough to come together.

a safe bet as I am imagining they will all be complaining and stressing about their tyres after last week.

If Lewis exits the first corner in first place the race for the lead is over. If he isn't in first place there will be a good battle.
So I'm hoping that Valtteri can get one of his flyers and Lewis hounds him for several laps. The great thing is there no crowd for the director to cut away to.
2nd point: Why are the sky presenters wearing hats?

Formula 1 drivers have been reminded by the FIA that they should cross the line on the last lap of the 70th Anniversary GP on the track, and not in the pitlane.
That’s interesting after the race last week wasn’t sure of the rules.
There was an incident in F3 last week where everyone followed the SC into the pits on the last lap, I'm assuming that is what has prompted this.

Wasn't this clarification put in place after 1998 here?

No it was the formula 1 last week where Lewis might have finished in the pit lane. Apparently it’s been left out of driver instructions recently at Silverstone

It's for the photos, isn't it. Can't have the winner of the 70th Anniversary race take the chequered flag in the pitlane behind the safety car.Formula 1 drivers have been reminded by the FIA that they should cross the line on the last lap of the 70th Anniversary GP on the track, and not in the pitlane.
