Waters braking too late, hurting his exits.

Honestly, once he got his head around the hybrid bits, I reckon he'd have a shot at being quite decent in a F1 car.
No questioning him as a driver, but more about how fun it would be to see him going wheel to wheel with the other drivers 🙂

Miss the old Bathurst days when Jim Richards was winning in the Nissan GTR and calling the crowd pack of aholes. 😂👍

Need a lot more water(s) for that

Going to be 2 laps at the restart I reckon, the car is on the flatbed.

But was going to say that I got all my wishes for the race - a bit of rain, a farewell Holden victory and also a win for the Giz 👍

This race at the end had such a good feeling about it. I think this is how the year ends.
Last race and win for Holden at the biggest race of the year. Shane finally doing it. Tander getting a 4th win. Intense race long battle. McLaughlin giving the best donuts I've seen in ages as well as seeing the realization on his face and for the team that this chapter is closing and a brand new amazing adventure is on it's way for Scotty as well as them.
I was too tired and needed sleep here in Europe-time but watched the race here and there throughout the night.
Congrats to the series and teams for making this possible, as there were some bleak days during this championship and I loved every minute of watching it. Cheers.

Yeah, everyone was unanimous in the post-race conversations thanking all the teams that had to spend almost 4 months away from home due to all the border closures/quarantines in order to make sure the championship happened. May they all relax and enjoy the off-season to the absolute max possible in these circumstances.

Despite the final result being close I was actually kind of disappointed in the race. All the safety cars early in the race came right in the normal pit windows and forced everyone onto the exact same strategy so there was never any real intrigue as to what strategy was going to work out best. I think even a straight up lights to flag race with no SCs at all would've had more strategy variance. When you combine that with practically zero tyre deg over the stints it didn't make for the best of races.
Can't complain that the final result wasn't deserved though. SVG definitely deserved the win and Waters was impressive all weekend too. I hope he and Tickford can continue their form into next season. Feels king of strange for Whincup to end up 4th in the championship after he seemed to be the only one posing any sort of challenge to Mclaughlin all year but I guess that probably won't matter much to him at this stage of his career

It was a purists race, near 100 laps green flag racing with top 2 within 2 seconds of each other is pretty good viewing.
I completely disagree. The safety cars completely dictated the race to the point that the top cars pitted on the exact same lap every time. There wasn't even a lap or 2 difference in stops where a nice in/out lap could make the difference. The cars were too evenly matched for any overtaking so it really needed at least a tiny bit of variance in strategy to create some excitement and that only would've happened with either less or better timed safety cars. The only time there was likely to be any on track overtaking was the wet period and Waters wasn't in the car to battle with Van Gisbergen at the time

How can the safety cars dictate the race when we had near 100 laps and 4 hours of green racing???

This race has been special to me since I was a kid, watching it on the couch with my dad. No matter how the day pans out, I still enjoy it.
As a Holden fan (Brock was king to me), it’s sad to see the name will be disappearing.
F.....ing Whincup! I never liked him, and to me will always be a Ford driver. I hated seeing Lowndesy’s 888 with him in the car. The commentators were banging on about it being a ”rare” mistake. Rubbish. Every 2 out of 3 years he has done something boneheaded to throw the race away.
I’m far from a massive SVG fan, but I’m happy to see him get a win, especially seeing he had GT with him. And he didn’t run anyone off the road all day, haha.
Waters was good all weekend, and surprised me.
Great to see Chaz on the podium. He’s one of my favs now (with Dave) that Lowndes and GT are no longer on the grid full time.
On CL and GT, I would have loved them to have been able to team up in a third Triple 8 car, or even GRM.
Scotty will likely head to the States now. I wish him luck. I’m sure he’ll acquit himself well.
One last thing. I loved Skaife as a driver, but I really wish he’d shut up. He makes my ears bleed as a commentator.

100 laps without a safety car? Was I watching a different race? The safety car just before lap 100 meant every car had their lead driver in (except McLaughlin) and had very little option but to pit two more times and split the rest of the race into 3 even stints. The most extreme strategy anyone could realistically go for from there was pit when McLaughlin/Slade did and even that was only a few laps before everyone else.
So calling it a race for the "purists" is not at all true. It was more of a modern flat out sprint race than anything you'd ever have traditionally seen

Bah i forgot about that one around lap 100. TBh though i think the top 2 were on the same strategy from lap 1. The race has changed int he last 20 years though, the reliability is so good and driving getting better and better, it really is a sprint. I mean the race winning pass was made around lap 60, which is kinda crazy.
