The best choice in drivers Mercedes made since 2013.

Great, curious to see how he will do. Don't expect him to beat Bottas, but think he will be close.

Good.
Let's see if anybody can win in that Merc.

It's pretty clear it's both, no? You don't really need this weekend for that.

How to make dead rubbers interesting 101
They are all for serious reasons, but yes it is insane how eventful F1 has got since wrapping up the titles.

Now I have to feel bad for Bottas

Btw I guess this also means that Aitken will sit out the F2 finale, so someone has to replace him as well, right? Nice chain of events.

So gutted for Vandoorne. What is the ducking point of having him as reserve driver if he isn’t even their reserve driver. Hope he tells Toto to **** off and looks for a WEC drive.
Again, the point of a reserve driver is being in "reserve" should there be no options for any other replacement, not to be an automatic replacement himself.

Exactly, can't imagine how gutted Russel would have felt would Stoffel have got the drive.

I have one question nobody is talking about: will Aitken make Latifi look bad- by beating him in Q or race in these circumstances?

Hype!

I'm extremely curious on how RUS will fare against BOT and VER. Happy for him to prove me wrong about his sunday abilities. A little more spice and mix at the top would be very welcome. Things got too stale with Bottas.

If I recall, didn't Paul DiResta take a drive in a Williams a few years ago when Suzi Wolff was their official reserve driver?
Anyway, I'm pleased for George Russell - let's see what he can really do!

With such a short and unusual layout, it can go either way I think. But to jump into the car so late in the season, I think that would be a too big of a task, Aitken is an F1 rookie after all.

Vandoorne hasn't done anything ever in an F1 car to deserve the freaking championship car. I cannot feel gutted for him at all. I'm sure Mercedes pays him well for his other duties.

Being a reserve driver means nothing these days.

I will be annoyed if his out-qualifying team mate record gets destroyed (which it likely will - Valterri is FAST in qualifying). One race before he would have gone to 3rd overall.

It is a short and unusual layout, but the drivers know all of it very well except the chicane at the back, which only the drivers who raced in 2010 will know. The cars will probably be set up for higher speeds, so the nature of the lap will change a bit, but the drivers all know the key parts.

Thats great news for George. And a fantastic oppurtunity for Aitken as well. Great choice by both teams in this case.

I thought everyone is hyped about Russell as a future champion?
Wuld have maybe been interesting if it was Vandoorne but George has been driving all year.

That's why I wrote it would make Latifi look bad.
But seeing by how much ahead was Russell on average in Q, it's not impossible to imagine that Latifi could even lose to a rookie.

‘heartbreak for George Russell after all the buildup and preparation, as he pulls to the side of the track. Lewis Hamilton’s car choosing to save its mechanical failures for his days off’

Or after the hype, some small part on the car will fail and it’ll be Crofty saying
‘heartbreak for George Russell after all the buildup and preparation, as he pulls to the side of the track. Lewis Hamilton’s car choosing to save its mechanical failures for his days off’
This made me hear Crofties voice in my head. Please do not ever do that again..

Haha, apologies.
It’ll be made worse for George as Jack scores Williams first points and beats him in the championship

On a sidenote, presuming that Russel will drive for MGP in Abu Dhabi too, this means Latifi will win this years intra-team battle at Williams. .

Great choice by Mercedes!
I hope Williams were well compensated though, as this was their opportunity to bag some much needed points.
