Interested to know the history before and after of the two Nomad group 6 cars that used to be raced during the 1980`s at the Silverstone 8 Clubs race meetings, both cars were red then and run under the Stoic racing banner.............Martin

I have no recollection of this type of Nomad (Mark Konig) taking part in the Eight Clubs Silverstone.

The Formula 1300 Nomads of Phil Lloyd raced in the F1300 races of course, but as it looked quite different only the name could cause confusion.

Hi Alan, i wondered if you might reply on something Eight Cubs related, yes they were definite competitors, i have photos (somewhere!) Also found this on the net https://www.ebay.co....A-/192885059024

 

Title is incorrect as it wasn`t Marc Konig, there were two guys involved with Stoic Racing, i am sure one of them was named John Piper, the surname of the other guy may have been Stephens? My Eight Clubs 1986 program is alluding me at the moment, but when i find it i will post more info......M

I don't need an argument but

a) that e-bay photo's quoted date is not that of the 1986 Eight Clubs meeting which was on July 19. (8.10.86 was a Wednesday in UK and a Sunday in USA so is probably wrong anyway).

b) I was wrong as my records show Terry Davidson raced a Nomad Mk 2 of 2944cc. in 1988 and Terry Davison raced a Mk 3 of 3164cc. in 1997 (probably same chap with spelling error)

Thanks Allan i knew you would come up trumps! The name John Piper has now stuck in my head regarding this car as well, i believe they had two Nomads, hence the Mk2 and Mk3. There used to be a Stoic racing web site but that has long since disappeared .

The Nomad MK 1, designed and built by Bob Curl in 1966, driven mainly by Mark Konig in all major races during 1967 and 1968 , is a one off prototype.
After its racing career it was sold in 1969 to Germany, in those days imported as a Lotus, as nobody at the customs would let come in a completly unknown car.
After this the rear screen was changed to a bigger one and some other efforts were made, as the German owner was keen enough, to try to get the Nomad street legal.
After some years of sitting in a garage´s corner and collecting dust, it was sold in the early 1980ies to Wolfgang Wegener, a car collector in Germany. He restored it completly, installed a 1800 cc Lotus Twin Cam engine, raced it sometimes, but also used it as a road car from time to time.
Some years ago, he unfortunately decided to sell it, and it went to a French collector, but he did not really use the car, and soon afterwards, he sold it to a new owner in Japan.
Thus this rare car´s history ended for now.
Let´s hope, it will find its way back to Europe one day.
