Max was too optimistic.

Neither gave an inch, it was inevitable.

He's never all the way alongside. Unlike Lewis on lap 1.

Hamilton gave enough space, just. Max went too hot in, but the contact created a bigger incident than it deserved.
I wouldnt penalize him though.

I expect a grid penalty for the next race.

If you no longer go for a gap....
#12
Posted 12 September 2021 - 13:47
Max's fault, Hamilton only defended the same as Max did on lap 1

Very much the definition of a racing incident. Two drivers, and only room for one.

Verstappen shoved Hamilton off on lap 1 and didn't get a penalty. Unlike Ocon on Vettel.
This is always going to happen when Verstappen doesn't get penalties for driving like a ****. Send the thug back to Belgium for a month.

Max 100%.
He's never all the way alongside. Unlike Lewis on lap 1.
Yep, and instead of avoiding the incident as HAM did, he kept his foot in.

If you try it, you couldn't replicate such a bounce of the tires/kerbs.

Hamilton defended in exactly the same way Max defended the Rosier chicane on lap 1.
So either.
- Both defensive moves were harsh but fair and Max should have backed out the same way Hamilton did on lap one.
- Or both have been unduly aggressive in their defending and both warrant some form of action,

I think this one is on Max.
I expect a grid penalty for the next race.
It's a legitimate overtaking location. Racing incident but towards Hamilton not leaving enough space.

Shades of Monza 1995 in terms of the drama.
Probably a racing incident.

I wouldnt penalize him though.
Why not? he oculd’ve avoided the incident like Lew did on lap 1.

I say it's a race incident, but if any it's Lewis who could have given some more space.
Max earned some more space there

Racing incident 100%, Max went for an optimistic move but that's his right.

Max at fault clear as day
There is only a single racing line through that right left corner, the idea Lewis should leave room for 2 cars is plain stupid

Given the stewards did nothing on lap 1, the answer by consistency should be the first option.

Pretty funny that it took both pit crews to make a mess of their pitstops by just the perfect amounts to put them together on track. Bravo to all.

It wasn’t really, HAM cut the chicane to avoid an incident like this.It was the same as the other way round on lap 1. So no big deal. Racing incident.

Posted 12 September 2021 - 13:52
Both not giving an inch. As racing should be. Racing incident for me.
#48
Posted 12 September 2021 - 13:52
Max was never ahead, barely alongside so was Lewis at any point obliged to leave space?
Just glad Hamilton is OK after that. Possibly a life saved by the halo. That was scary.
Ultimately probably a racing incident. Neither driver wanted to cede. But I reckon Max could have done more to avoid contact.

I would give the kerb a penalty.
Will the 18 inchers bounce less?
