I felt that since today is the first public video of the lump being fired up, it was time to start a W13 technical thread.

Welcome!!

Wow that is super early isn’t it? Or maybe just a perception since we finished the season super late vs previous years?

Either way if it is early they aren’t messing around! Lol

Wonder if they have revised the 2021 engine OR just started the AD engine 🤣 - that would be funny!

These cars were supposed to debut this year, so I'm sure all teams are a little further down the road than usual.

Well, they do need a lot of time to build all those engines...

I have a feeling that Mercedes will dominate the next 2-3 years again like 2014-2016, after a brilliant season the next one tends to be boring and predictable.

Definite room for improvement from them on the engine front.  Do we know if they sorted out their derating issues?  Plus the aim must be to be able to run the engine as hard as they did in Brazil at other races too, without incurring the same sort of performance degradation that inflicted grid penalties on them.

Are we assuming that no other team has fired it up and simply hasn't gone for the social media thing?

Haas already crash tested and homologated the 2022 chassis. So based on this thread it's Hamilton vs Schumacher for the title?

Good point - other manufacturers are probably laughing at the fact that they may have fired theirs up a while back.

I would be surprised if they are not working on 2023. Didn’t they stop the 2021 chassis development after testing which would mean they have been focusing on 2022 for a little less than a year.

Sorry wrong thread.

I suppose this shows how little was put into W12.

I wonder if the decision makers within the team rue that a bit, and perhaps over estimated their advantage coming in.

It was a good decision in my opinion.  It required something quite out of the ordinary to prevent an 8th consecutive WDC.

+ they helped F1 with ratings and ensured Max supporters didn’t jump off the band wagon had Merc/Lewis run away with it again.

Unless I'm overthinking it but surely Mercedes wouldn't want the rest of the grid to see what their car would look like right?

I think someone already mentioned this but most cars will be ready by now. They all had a full extra year to prep correct? Would be surprised if others were not in the same position.

Either way it surely looks like they want to come out all guns blazing. 💪

The derating issue may be worse next year due to no MGU-H…

Why is the Merc team thread locked, lads and gents? Did Toto escalate again or one of his siblings on board? Anyways...

I feel like a shark today, that's when I'm at my best. Let's demolish Red Bull... no merci. Perhaps we can drink a Red Bull afterwards, but I kindly reject. We drink Gordon's London Dry Gin. Make Elizabeth II proud again. The old lady needs to witness the 8th...

...I liked the black color of la macchina, as well as the silver... black looks ridiculous cool in night races...

Female shark. Take care, those are the most dangerous. Especially for men... :D

We need a testing thread... I'm too lazy to look up when they will test. I want them to race again. Not so thrilled by winter sports this year.

I’ll be very happy if AMG win all 22, with 44/63 coming home 1 and 2 each time.

Yeah not really nice from him, it should be like 18 times 44/63 and 4 times 63/44.

Dont get this closed like AMG team thread.

To even the scales of Lady Justice. Happy for normal service to return in 2023. Genuinely feel AMG didn’t lose this, it was stolen from them, so, yeah, happy for them to steamroller 22 and we can get back to a good competition in 23.

It a bit like rolling the dice 10 times and getting a 1 10 times. Makes you feel you deserve a 6 next time you roll. In reality, the chances are all reset to zero next time the cars go out.

Mercedes needs to deserve it in 2022 by having a better car than last year if they want to have the above desired clean sweep.

How good will their car be? Nobody knows yet - probably why nobody is talking about the car itself in a topic on the car.

I just hope they do, is all. Retribution. I’d be happy with that, then 44 walking off into the distance, record unlikely ever to be matched.

If they’ve improved the engine, and managed to get the lost HP back from the change in fuel, I trust them enough to have something close enough to challenge, but I hope it’s a bit more than that. I’d be happy with a 2016 or 2020 again as regards car performance.

The aero will be much more important the PU next year imo.

With such a complete overhaul of the aero rules and probably the biggest change in the way cars generate downforce in 30 years, the differences between the teams who will get it right and who will get it wrong will be much bigger than PU differences.

Even with 20-30hp less, you can still win 2022 if you nail the chassis. Good thing for Mercedes is that they focused on the car early!

I agree, that they let the tokens roll over onto the ‘22 car might be a blessing.

Also agree they could nail the engine, already the class of the field, and mess up the chassis. I don’t think they will, but there are no absolutes, or givens in this sport.

I guess we’ll all have some kind of idea in 6 weeks.

I don’t think you agree with me, as my point was that aero will be (much) more decisive than PU’s in 2022.

The best PU won’t be worth much next year if the aero package is sub par.
