At the time of writing, Zhou and Albon who were in horrendous accidents at the start of the 2022 British GP. It’s for updates which are going to come on the back of such a serious incident but feel free to analyse and respond.

I’m going to repeat this here, there is a shot of the race start and all the grid panels are flashing yellow before the accidents begin.

It’s clear someone/something detected the danger, yet the race was not neutralised at that point.

It seems the roll hoop has gotten less love since the introduction of the halo. Adding all that weight on the car really needed to beef up the roll hoop.

I replayed the start several times. There were no flashing yellows.

Yes there was. I saw it on the pit wall.

I think everything now has to be put in the context of Sainz being far far far more aggressive off the startline towards Verstappen but that didn't end in a massive accident.

@WilliamsRacing

Alex has been transferred by helicopter to Coventry Hospital for precautionary checks following the opening lap incident. We will provide updates when available.

Luckily he is okay. So a sandwich joke is allowed to be made.

What an idiot move by Russell that started it all.

The car safety did its job there, highly unusual for a car to end up there. Glad he's ok.

I find it curious that Albon was taken to hospital by helicopter.

Ignoring the possible seriousness of the situation, and Getty being... Getty.

That is an awesome picture!

Call it journalism and just take it as it is. Even if it were not that good for Zhou.

Vettel’s car cam shows them all lit up flashing along the left 2nd half of the grid. They clear before the incident and then all hell breaks loose.

I get why the drivers aren’t reacting to them, though.

He got tagged by Gasly who got sandwiched - a typical start incident - hence no further action......

Jenson looking at the incident on Sky noting touching the escape road is what flipped the car.

Yes, not George's fault.

I’m pretty sure they did that because Tsunoda had an especially slow getaway. The yellows flashed around where he started on the grid. So I think that was to warn of a slow starting car not anything to do with the pinch between Zhou, Gasly, Russell.

Totally George's fault for ducking left where Gasly was.

Just seen photos - roll structure sheared off.  Second life saved this weekend by the Halo, or at least, one life and life-altering paralysis.  FIA should ban blade roll structures.

In all fairness, the crash itself was not really severe. It was nasty, but not truly a hard or a big one. Albons impact might have been bigger.
None the less, it's testament to the ever ongoing efforts by the FIA to make those cars safer and safer every single time. And today's shunt by Zhou proved that work is to be done ever more, as the main roll hoop structure failed and the Halo truly saved a life today.

Yeah, I was saying in the race thread that the Albon impacts were really bad. Always a problem when there’s multiple big hits in quick succession because the crash structure protection isn’t there for that bit of the car after the first impact.

That’s what it looked like to me- like it caught the concrete edge at the end of the gravel.

when car was skidding upside down, could see halo did a lot to prevent injury or even death.

No. Ted just said on the notebook and said Williams had nothing to tell him beyond he’d been airlifted to hospital.

(I *think* the main A road was closed during the race?)

I'm pretty sure it was said on broadcast he was back in the paddock before the end of the race.

George was reckless. He moved across where Gasly was and he seemed to be looking in his left mirror as well when he did it. This is not the first time he's been involved in a high speed accident that could've had serious consequences.

This may have been the first time I was glad they did not show the wreck until it was clear Zhou was ‘ok’.

I thought Gassly was more to blame. Going for a gap between two cars with a corner coming. He then took both Russell and Zhou out.

Maybe I-m wrong but that's what it looked like in the replays.

I will always have the opinion that I want to see what is happening. Even when it is bad.
That being said; I do respect the fact that it isn't shown. But that doesn't take away that it just frustrates me that you don't get any news and that you do have to rely on social media/YouTube to find out what has happened.

Because in the past we’ve heard interim updates that have proved wide of the mark. It must be agony on the watching family but how much more terrible to hear good news that turns out to be sadly inaccurate.

I think Russell and Gasly both made bad choices, but everyone does off the start. Usually it all works out, this time it didn’t. Very much an unfortunate racing accident.

With that look, one would think that the guy in the background failed in his attempt to murder Zhou.

I think it was the other way around, Russel squeezed Gasly which caused it all, including the Albon accident.

On Ch4 they said that they wouldn't show the replays (i.e. the world feed wouldn't) until the status of the driver was confirmed.  I did wonder what they would do if the status of the driver was confirmed as "badly injured".  Still show it, or not?  We'd all want to see it, yet simultaneously wouldn't.
