Simon Thomas, from Comber in Ulster, has just sent me this:

"How long to complete a lap?

"The answer is 88 years. Here is a photo of my 1931 Austin Ulster TT on the Donaghadee circuit last week where the County Down Trophy was held in 1934. David Yule from Dublin rolled the car on this the first right hand corner on his first practice lap badly damaging the car and hospitalising himself. The circuit is still there on public roads though widened in places..."

From Perry McCarthy‘s point of view this is a very unfair question!

The time obviously includes the duration of the pit stop...

Naturally he had to change tyres.

Officially, in F1 World Championship, Al Pease, surely?

88 years?  I imagine that, going by those criteria, there may be quite a few that are still out on their lap  - and who knows when or if they will ever complete them?

I thought the only way to achieve the slowest lap was to drive the Life L190.

Surely Innes Ireland when he pushed his Lotus 18 round Monaco would just be a tad slower than Pease?

If it's time rather than percentage, it must be the Nurburgring or Pescara.

In modern times a specific lap of this F3 race should be the slowest one by a wide margin. ;)

Dan Gurney was noted for going so slowly during the 66 Belgian GP with water soaked ignition that he could hear the loud speaker commentary.

Here’s a possible contender for the slowest non-stop lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Walter Röhrl drove this Porsche Junior tractor there in 2013, lapping in 1hr 5min 36sec. He said it was the only vehicle he’d ever taken flat out through the Karussell.

Slowest lap in a World Championship Grand Prix, that would have to been achieved during the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix.

Race red flagged on lap 25 due to heavy rain, restarted after a break for the scheduled remaining laps. Official time clock still ran during break period.

Slowest lap 25 was achieved by Nick Heidfeld (Renault R31) with time of 2 hr 05m  07.547s.

Canada 2011  took 4hr 04m 39.537s to complete

Walter did say that he had a policy of never wearing a helmet in (or on) anything that couldn’t get round the Ring in under eight minutes. ;)

And wearing jewelry,, his watch.

No front brakes either though Walter shauld be able to drift it in on the rear brakes!

Though personally I would wear a helmet.

I just hope it was a warm day...

It would have been a foolish stunt if he'd caught his death of a cold...

Slinging an Audi Quattro Sport round a rally stage isn't particularly sensible either, one could argue,

Well the Group B era wasn't really sensible at all in the long run.
