The second half of this F1 season begins at a sweltering Paul Ricard.

Leclerc and Verstappen share the front row for the 6th time this year, with contrasting setups. Perez recovered from a poor Friday to a strong P3 and could be an outside bet if tyre wear is as bad as expected. Will Mercedes' usual Sunday improvement be enough to keep the front three in sight?

Starring midfield performances from Norris, Alonso, Tsunoda and Vettel will be worth keeping an eye on, as Sainz and Magnussen make their way through from the back.

Race start 2pm BST / 3pm CEST (90 mins from this post)

I’m hoping that my incredibly low expectations for this race will mean that it’ll be a crazy topsy-turvy one with plenty of surprises.

Between the tyre wear and straightline speed I'll be surprised if Leclerc is able to hold off Verstappen but who knows, Austria was supposed to be an easy one for Max too...

I stayed away from betting on a winner this week.
Reason- I didn't like the odds. Also think Max will smoke Chuck off the line, unfortunately.
So, I took either Aston to fail first @ +1200. Cmon Lance, find Latifi and seek revenge !!

Imperative for the Mercedes-drivers to not end up behind Norris, if they’re gonna keep that slight hope of a podium.

Ferrari have been as fast or faster than RB in the race 3 races running

Not sure VER is favourite

This is going to be a Red Bull romp. Verstappen was fastest on the straights even with Sainz and Leclerc teaming up for the tow. Perez hasn't quite been on the pace all weekend, I'm thinking it'll be VER-PER-LEC.

I will be incredibly surprised if both Ferraris and both RBs finish the race.

I have $1.00 on Perez or Magnussen to win in all races this season.

Mercedes' best chance for a podium is- as always this year- Ferrari or Red Bull mechanical troubles. This is not very dependent on if they get stuck behind Norris, but you're right in a sense that if they end up behind Norris at the finish line, then their podium chances are not great. ;)

I really hope Hamilton has a clean start, because I think in the heat he can be a factor, seriously.

Can't think of too many instances recently where Lewis has been the next best car after L1 behind the top two teams. I hope there's a chance today to see how Lewis stacks up with them from the opening laps.

This allied with a one stopper puts him smack bang in contention.

I would imagine RB will split strategies with either PER or VER on a 2-stopper.

Toto said they cannot get the tyres into the optimal window even with 3 laps in this heat so he may be a sitting duck.

I don’t get why Sky Sports keep phoning Nico Rosberg during a race weekend. If he’s there on the ground then fair enough he’s a good pundit going back and forth over the phone is just stupid

I imagine that Sky had already paid Rosberg to be pundit for a set number of races before he got banned from the paddock. That is why they have him on Zoom.

Pirellis startegy assement never works out, they have no clue. I laugh at the official Pirelli startegy guide every weekend.

Yeah just did a quick google. He's banned but how many 'hangars on' are at the track in a similar position!

I dearly hope so.

Also whenever I read that it's time for the French Grand Prix, a small and hidden part of me gets a bit hyped for Magny Cours. Alas...

So the pit stop time loss will probably be about 26.5-28.0 seconds.

Is Brundle part time now ?

I think he negotiated a set number of races that afforded him 2 or 3 race weekends off a year 10 years ago, and he hasn’t upped his contracted races while F1 have added quite a few extra.

Interesting to hear it’s possibly the last French GP, think it’s important we race in France, especially looking at the attendance, but can’t say I’ll miss this epileptic fit of a circuit, and I’m not sure that there is anywhere more promising, either.

Maybe to you? I'm interested to see a nice Max vs Lec battle.
First lap knockout would be dissappinting, not to mention the endless threads.... Who needs that.

Well, this year's cars can follow pretty close, so track position doesn't really matter. It's all about who can keep the tyres alive.
