The fact that this almost disappoints me rather than excites me says it all about modern F1…

Weather impacts still unclear right now.

#F1 #BelgiumGP WEATHER OUTLOOK - Low Confidence in Forecast at this time. Last output of the Euro Model puts rain on Sat-Sun in Spa, however it does not converge with other models. Ensemble suggests greater risk of rain this weekend (for now), on Saturday (40%). 21-23°C.

The prospect of rain usually excites me but, nowadays, I actively hope it doesn’t rain. We never get any racing when it does.

I love Spa, it’s my favourite track of all, so I hope we get a classic.

A repeat of last years result, unless of course its Hamilton leading when the red flag is thrown! All bitchin aside, I'm hoping for rain during the race, just not heavy enough to red flag it, that way we should get a decent race.

NO rain please, Spa really needs a decent week-end this year, 2 years ago a dead, last year no race at all. enough is enough.

Apparently they have painted some of the run-off in Spa now too.

Looks better for me.

Is there good evidence of them learning from their mistakes?

I'd like a wet weekend where the teams had set the cars up to run in the rain, rather than all setting up for the dry and assuming/knowing that the F1 will be too feart to run if there isn't a dry line on the track.

Spa is always Spa.

The recent modifications were spot on for me, watching the GT 24 H earlier this month.

Eau Rouge-Radillion is now much safer, with more runoff, while leaving the corner itself as it was.

But overall the track could be extra punishing in the wet this season given the addition of gravel in multiple corners, including Turn 1.

An announcement that Spa is saved for the 2023 calendar and 10 years onwards, would make for a perfect weekend to me. One can dream, cant he?

It doesn't look like "the perfect storm" of 2021 so I expect we'll get a full race. They can race in the wet at Spa, just not in the highly unusual conditions we had last year.

Yeah, or cream/brown to resemble the old gravel traps there. I think psychologically that would make it look more intimidating again.

Just looks like a bit of a Paul Ricard mess now.

Interestingly, are those lines foam (or whatever) barriers on the left of Raidillon? To stop drivers going straight? Great news if true, I was assuming that they’d leave the whole complex open.

Definitely the most overrated track of all time. In the past 10 years here we've probably had 2 good races. And that's without takin into account the biggest embarassment in F1 we've had for ages with the shitshow that happened last year.

Hoping for a mixed conditions race in the style of Spa 2008

It's always been F1's ultimate test of high-speed cornering. It's rarely produced thrillers, unless weather intervenes.

The venues that connect Grand Prix racing to its early days in the 1920s are valuable too.

If they fail to have a (proper) race again, that could be the nail in the coffin for Spa.

Not to mention this year's aerodynamic regulations should help deflect spray better.

Do you say the same about Monaco, which is valued as the supreme test of driving skill and precision on Saturday?

Despite Spa being probably my favourite circuit and one that I look forward to every year, I kind of agree with you that it’s lost it’s way a bit. Since they got rid of the old bus stop and neutered much of the circuit with asphalt run-off (the new gravel traps aren’t really proper gravel traps), it hasn’t really been the same.

Still a classic circuit though and I love F1 going there (plus a great circuit to visit).

I somehow sense that he's unlikely to ever sit his rear end down in an Alpine cockpit again.

I doubt there will be rain. And it is definitely different than last year. I think so will even ask for rain during the race. I think it will be dry.
