It's not surprising after the strategy calls this year.

I thought Alfa was the proving ground for future Ferrari drivers, not team principals!

Eeekk!!

But is the problem really just the TP, or the entire structure needs a root & branch change?

F1 is a results driven business, Ferrari sacrificed 21 for 22, and still lost out - hardly a surprise.

Who is above Binotto? Seems to me that maybe the problem lies there.

Formula Passion is saying the tire issue with Leclerc in Brazil was the fatal blow for Binotto:

Unless Rueda and Mekies are also going, absolutely nothing will change during a race weekend.

And if he is being fired, it's most likely because he doesn't want to accept a different role.

This is SO Ferrari!! Replace some average with someone…. Average!! I’d cry if it weren’t so predictable.

Surprised it’s taken this long.

A Frenchman leading Ferrari. Went ok last time I guess.

Doubt this will change anything, also not really sure about Vasseur, he didn't really set the world alight at Sauber?

The main grievance, it seems, amongst the terrible strategy / reliability is losing well over a second (!!!!) to Mercedes this season.

That seems to have incensed the board. That really is unforgivable.

And yet another brilliant Ferrari employee promoted away from the role at which they actually specialised at gets the boot fairly soon after. It's not surprising at all but how long till Binotto rocks up at another manufacturer with a headful of all the knowledge of that engine and goes back to being brilliant?

As for Vasseur, it's not the worst choice, wonder if his relationship with Leclerc has had any bearing on the choice.

Knee-jerk reaction, IMO. Binotto was not that bad. He has more positives than negatives. In the first half season, they showed the highest level of competitiveness since 2008. They looked like genuine title contenders.

Anyway, nothing new in Ferrari: they don't win? Ok, let's fire everybody and restart from zero. Until they realize again that they are not winning and return to case one: fire everybody. Domenicali - Mattiacci - Arrivabene - Binotto - Vasseur in the space of ten years.

Wonder if we'll see some Audi influence as to the next Sauber TP, or if they'll be a clear placeholder.

I´m a bit torn. Although I respect Binotto as a technical specialist, it seemed as if he was way out of league as TP. Mekies and Rueda should've been those sacked instead/before Binotto. Hopefully they go too and the team gets people who understand something about strategies and have imagination.

That was achieved with a mid season rule change and not because Mercedes out developed Ferrari.

This dude couldn't fix Alfas pitstop issues over the years and their weak strategy team/calls.

And now he's gonna be Ferraris new TP.

The hell are they smoking at Maranello?

Typical Ferrari to continually sack people.

Stability is what they need.

Maybe Binotto was asked to change Mekies and Rueda, along with other poor race operations engineers and refused.

Binotto was well suited to the technical side, and I hope he returns there. I don't know if Vasseur is the answer, but Ferrari hasn't delivered this year, and Binotto doesn't seem able to right the ship going forwards, so it is perfectly logical for Ferrari to make a change.

Glad that they sacked Binotto, but Vasseur is not the answer.

As I commented on Twitter and Reddit: not sure what to think about this.

In my opinion one of Ferrari’s mistakes was the constant lack of stability.

Domenicali, Mattiacci, Arrivabene, Binotto, now Vasseur... so many changes.

I think I would have kept Binotto as TP at least for 2023 and made small changes/reinforcements in the rest of the structure (for example the strategy department, probably Leclerc's race engineer as well).

If Fred comes in, I hope that Binotto will maintain an engineering position, which would be his natural role after all.

If they do this, maybe it could work.

We'll see.

I’m not sure if this is a “fire the manager and hope it changes deep systematic issues” or part of a plan to truly turn Ferrari around, but after the rather disastrous season they had after producing a car that was in championship contention, at least for the first half of the season, something had to change.

Don’t think that Binotto would accept working for a former customer.

If they get rid completely of him and he is willing to work in an engineering position elsewhere this could backfire badly.

As much as I like Vasseur (and I do a lot), I don't think he is the solution. Let him stay at Sauber/Audi, and get Arrivabene back at Ferrari.

I like Vasseur too and think this could be really good for Ferrari if they can keep Binotto in a tech capacity.

Ferrari produced the best car for race 1 and have contrived to only win 4 races, throw so many points away with horrific strategy and are now the 3rd fastest team.

Binotto didn't help himself with some of the comments he made throughout the season either. It's not a surprise he's going after failing to realise anywhere close to the potential for this season.

I think Vasseur is a sensible hire and wise of Ferrari to bring in an outsider.

However, the bigger problem is the rest of the team. Replacing the TP will not sort their issues out. The team needs gutting from the bottom and overhauled completely, there's too many historical events that now are overhanging baggage and every time there is a minor error, it's made worst by the ones that proceeded it.

The problem isn't firing them, absolutely none of them have done a good job, but hiring rubbish behind them. Fred is at least a complete outsider and will bring fresh eyes.

Well, yes, because it's literally his job to make sure that everyone else can do theirs properly, without micro managing.
