This is interesting. The track would not get a licence now.   Some of the single seaters must have been relatively current, cenrtainly early sixties but I can't identify all of them.  Car 93 I should know , Elva or Emeryson?

Isn't #93 a Cooper-Buick?

#94 Railton, registered YG 9171.

Yes, and as the driver has a full beard it is likely to be David Harrison. From the opening shot I thought it might be David Hepworth but the woolly grey matter thinks he might have had  an early Brabham Chevrolet  at that time.  If the long wheelbase open vintage car is a Bentley it is likely to be Frank Sowden’s car,  he being a well known Yorkshire exponent.   How refreshing to see such an interesting piece of film.

I believe car 93 is Chris Summers' Cooper- Chevrolet.

The pre war cars are Lagonda M45R, Lagonda LG45 (Herb Schofield), Railton and two Lagonda Rapiers.

Presumably the supercharged Lotus 22 is the ex-Boshier-Jones hillclimb car?

There is an abridged version of the film and an interesting discussion on a well known social media site.

Possible match from 1965 (but film title says 1966, therefore 25 September 1966):

Success at South Yorks

Sprint Championship

THE largest collection of

racing and historic racing

cars ever seen in South York-

shire were gathered at Sand-

toft Circuit on Sunday Septem-

ber 19th for the South York-

shire Car Enthusiasts’ Sprint

championships run under the

RAC full restricted permit.

The snarl of exhausts the

squeal of protesting tyres and

the smell of Methanol fuel

drifted across the circuit to

the 8000 spectators as the 92

competitors fought it out on the

twisting 0.7 mile track. This

beautiful day provided ideal

conditions and no less than 20

new class records were estab-

lished.

Bruce Hodgson in a Ford

Cortina G.T., specially pre-

pared for this event by Messrs.

E. Hodgson and Son, of Ret-

ford took his class award with

a convincing display of high

speed driving, particularly at

the bends, which had many

people biting their nails with

excitement.

The outright fastest lap was

held by four different drivers

at various times throughout the

day, and the new record even-

tually went to D. Harrison,

from Ilkley, who averaged 67

m.p.h. on this tortuous track in

his immensely powerful 3524

c.c. Cooper Buick. He was

awarded the A.G.I.P. Trophy

and £50.

At the end of the meeting a

special event was held between

the various class winners to

see which of them could make

the greatest percentage im-

provement on his previous best

lap time and collect the Snipe

Trophy and £50, kindly pre-

sented by Mr Arthur Snipe.

This award was won by J.R.

Walton, of Sheffield, who im-

proved by 2.4 seconds in his

Walton-Bristol. The award

for the fastest Historic Racing

Car went to J. R. Brown, of

Burnley who drove a 1,971 c.c.

Cooper Bristol.

Mr. Philip Barker of White-

houses, Retford, driving a Rail-

on car, owned at one time by

Mr. R. Strike a former Editor

of the “Retford Times”, came

third in the vintage car class.

Isn't the #28 Alfa Romeo a 'D' Reg?

Dutchy, many thanks for the clarification on the non Bentley.   It was the beard which identified the Cooper.

There seemed to be what looked like a red Sebring (or similar) Sprite (or possibly a WSM Sprite)towards the beginning of the film. Does anyone have information on that?

Hull drivers B. A. Moore and M. J. West both scored victories in the British Automobile Racing Club’s meeting at Croft near Darlington yesterday. In the sports racing-car event, Moore was first in his class up to 1150 cc driving a Lotus 23. West won his class in the special GT car event driving a Lotus 23GT.

Does anybody have more info on the races at Croft?
