No team principal for Alfa Romeo this year - instead they'll have a "team representative", whatever that means, in Alessandro Alunni Bravi.

Alfa Romeo have confirmed that Alessandro Alunni Bravi, already a Managing Director of the Sauber Group, will also occupy the role of Team Representative in 2023.

(...)

The team confirmed that Alunni Bravi will be "representing the team in all official functions at race weekends and away from the track".

This means that Alunni Bravi will likely assume at least some of the typical race weekend duties normally carried out by team principals, most noticeably the media sessions.

In another team news, Orlen is gone and Stake is the new title sponsor:

Alfa Romeo have confirmed a new title partner with 'lifestyle' brand Stake, with the team changing its title to the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake for 2023.

The Swiss-based team have announced the new 'multi-year' partnership with Stake ahead of the 2023 season.

(...)

Stake's main presence is as a growing betting and online gaming website, with their sponsorship portfolio including Everton football club in recent years.

So, a lot at stake for Sauber this year!

Ok, Ill grab my coat myself.

I do wonder how this transition period of Sauber will be. This is the last year with Alfa Romeo, next year it will likely be plain Sauber again. But the transition to Audi will commence already, I assume. Key people moving in, car development moving perhaps in a different direction, budgets being upscaled by Audi to have a solid team running by 2026. It will be very interesting to see how this all will work out. We have never had a 4 year period, from last season onwards, where a manufacturer said "were coming in" and they got said 4 years of preparation to get the team up to speed. BMW was 3 years and so was Toyota.

As Audi are effectively taking over a well established team, it isn't really the same as , say Toyota, starting from scratch.  This is like Mercedes morphing out of Tyrrell/BAR/Honda/Brawn.  All Audi have to concentrate upon is developing their engine.  Sauber will do the chassis.

Well, yes. But it will be a fully pledged Audi team. So it is only plain logic that Audi do want to have the best team available to them. So Sauber will be strengthened if they do think they need it and the coming years are perfect for them to mould Sauber into the Audi team they want it to be. Including a superstar driver and a talented rookie or youngster, is my educated guess. Norris and Pourchaire? Who knows?

Definitely not here. Orlen is going to sponsor Alpha Tauri but Kubica should finally put all his focus on endurance racing.

Will the team be constructed as Audi from 2026, or Sauber Audi?

I believe they are buying 25% every year for 20323/2024 and 2025

So previous 100% owner still holds majority; obviously important for Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo are just a sponsor, they have no ownership stake.  And they are gone after this year.

Indeed, and most years they didn't even fund enough paint to cover the whole car. Half the followers of racing still called it Sauber, and the excitement generated on an Alfa forum didn't quite rise to anyone posting about it after the initial announcement.

My point being that regardless of Alfa Romeo, the car will use a Ferrari engine for another three years - so it is important for Sauber to get along with Ferrari during that period.

Definitely true, but Ferrari isn't connected to Alfa Romeo which is part of Stellantis now.

And another car with the absolute minimum of paint in order so save weight. I hate this development.

Yeah they need to do something about paint rules, every car is just gonna end up 80% exposed carbon by the start of the season. Now liveries are being designed around it  :well:

Kick where Stake is not permitted.

In countries where advertisement of gambling and sports betting is disallowed,@Stakewill be replaced by@KickStreaming- both in the@alfaromeoorlenteam name and logo. Where both Stake and Kick are disallowed, just the Alfa Romeo F1 Team logo will be featured.

Yep I think most cars are going to be like this unfortunately.

Great to see something that looks technically different though.

It's not even paint anymore, it's just vinyl stickers on the bare carbon, its lighter and easier to apply or replace.

You can see it in one of McLaren's recent videos where they talk about the vinyl.

I quite like it. It's almost like the Alfa branding is peeling off, revealing the original Sauber black underneath.

That floor edge looks quite radical. It's an array of vortex generators.

Edit: It's a computer render so let's see if this makes it onto the real car.

Its the first 2023 car that has been shown properly and we are already going wild over the floor edges which do not look too radical to my taste. Imagine what will happen when the other teams will actually reveal their true 2023 challengers.

Notice the “Sauber” logo on airbox and front wing ? Were not there last year - preparing the future ?
