The second point is intriguing. I wonder if the data we use to make our stats has any inherent biases in it that magnify past greats inequitably.

 

Good question for a statistician cum psychologist. I bet the "rose-tinted glasses" and "confirmation bias" fallacies will have a measurable effect on the assessment of the great drivers of old.
