Williams and Gulf have launched a fan vote to see which of four potential liveries will be applied to the FW45 for this year's Singapore, Japanese and Qatar Grands Prix.

The official vote can be accessed via the link above, but just for fun, what does the Autosport Forum think?

Heritage will win and another Back to the Future movie will get made because humanity has run out of ideas.

As you know, there's a problem with the forum displaying images (although I must be lucky, as everything is fine for me!).  If none of the workarounds do anything, here are some direct links to the images:

Imo the Gulf style livery suits some cars better than others eg on a Tyrrell or a 917 it was awesome, whereas on a GT40 it somehow didn't look right. This is somewhere in the middle.

I like that they called the BMW knockoff "visionary"

For me, it was Pesenti-Rossi's car which didn't seem quite right and neither did the 1972 and 1973 Mirages, but the GT40s were ok for me and the best were the 917s and the 1975 Mirage Gr8.

In general, the less orange area, the better.

Maybe I just liked the Tyrrell relative to the works colour scheme. Agree on the Mirage.

The problem isn't that humanity has run out of ideas, it's that there's an expectation to constantly have new ideas even though you (or someone else) might have already had the best idea. That doesn't mean we should stop trying new things, but it does mean we need to accept that they might not always be better. And that's ok.

Weird that. I've always thought the same. The GT40 looked better in the original Gulf Oils blue.

As I said in the Williams thread, Bolder Than Bold is my favourite. I don't think the classic Gulf livery really suits these long cars because of the massive expanse of plain blue, so the dashed stripes and mottled blue lean into the heritage, but suit the car and give it it's own distinct identity.

Heritage just suits the lines of the car the best I think. Bolder looks good too though, and I also like the Visionary. Contemporary looks a bit messy for me though.

I like the bolder one. It still looks Gulf, but without being 100 percent retro. It would work really well as the main Williams livery in my opinion. I can be nostalgic about proper tracks and screaming engines, but for liveries I kind of prefer something slighly more creative, plus McLaren already did a retro Gulf livery a few years back.

Interesting that the voting isn't a direct choice from all 4 on the Gulf site. It's split into 3 knockout stages with only a choice of 2 designs each time.

Pretty much sets up a Bolder vs Heritage final I bet.

I like Contemporary.  Visionary is hideous.  Heritage is a little too retro for the modern body lines.

I think the orange bits will look cool at speed on the Bolder Than Bold livery, so I went with that.

I've voted bolder than bold because that's a refreshing design which I quite like and I don't want to be thrown to death with those heritage liveries.

Contemporary is by far my fave - just a nice, modern but not overdone interpretation of the classic scheme. Visionary isn't bad either but it loses the Gulf identity a bit. Heritage is alright too, simple and elegant but it doesn't offer anything new. I dislike Bold the most, that pattern in the light blue parts is just awful.

Every time I come back to this I change mind. Except for the mess that is Contemporary.

Bold and heritage are the ones that work.

Contemporary is like a default livery in Codemasters F1 games, while Visionary is too McLaren.

Was just about to say - it’s like picking a livery in the ‘make your team’ mode

I actually really like the visionary one, but this got to be heritage. It's iconic.

I like the Bolder Than Bold, mainly because of the deeper blue. The others look too pale, just like the Gulf McLarens have been the past couple of years. I don't know if it's how it translates in modern photos and TV or what it is, but they've looked much lighter than the Gulf Porsches and the Gulf GT40 I've seen in person.

Heritage. The others look like they were finished ages ago, but the designer was paid by the hour.

What I really like is that teams are being given more leeway to actually change liveries during the season, which gives us some nice variety. McLaren and Alpine have been doing that well for the past couple of years.

The rare situation where what I like the most visually seems to be popular. Weird!
