Sounds awful

But might actually be better than Drive to Survive, because it's not pretending to be a documentary

It can’t be worse than Driven, right?

… right?

Immediately sounds dreadful, but I'd prefer that they meddle in fiction and not meddle with the real sport.

So, basically, a Netflix-era, cinematic Michel Vaillant...

The premise of a family owned F1 team is already a fail. I guess it’s part of the fiction bit…

Make it about three adult children fighting for who gets to CEO of the F1 team when the boss eventually steps down

My wife watches a lot of british 'whodunnit' series on tv, and in one of those (McDonald and Dodds I think it's called), there was an F1 'inspired' (using the term loosely here) episode, about a family owned F1 team. There was so much wrong with everything related to the F1 references, I don't think they got 1 thing right. The target audience wasn't racing fans though.

May as well go for full fiction rather than the contrived cack of Drive to Survive.

I never watch CSI stuff but I watched a ChampCar-based episode in 2003.

Is the rest of their stuff totally garbage as well?

I used to enjoy ‘Dream Team’ when I was in my early/mid teens (drama based on a Premier League football team). I guess this will be a bit like that.

In 2009, the montreal Canadiens were celebrating 100 years of history as a team. They commissioned a movie amongst other things. That movie is absolutely shite. A family story that had little to do with the 100 years of the team. Drivel. I don’t think they even mentioned it since they realized what an absolute turd it was. That’s why, among a myriad of other reasons why, sporting entities commissioning fictional « art » about themselves is always a bad idea.

Maybe it will be based around the story lines in the current F1 games lmao  :rotfl:

Haha, that’s equally cringe worthy. I’m skipping the game this year because that will be back.

Deadline say the writers/producers (and so presumably the show-runners) will be Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. The duo adapted Children of Men and The Expanse - two excellent adaptations - but then also Cowboys and Aliens, which isn't necessarily bad (opinions will vary) as much as just too pulpy. Given that, I'd say this show is likely going to be average with potential for some really entertaining bits. Sounds like it'll basically be a Succession knock-off basically.

Technically, Logan Roy didn’t step down…

If done properly this could be fun!

Very difficult to execute and make good, unless the actual motorsport stuff is very much in the background.

Like how you didn't really need to know anything about chess to enjoy The Queen's Gambit.

Haha, yeah. Never watched it myself, but from what I gather it was actually nothing to do with football, really. At least with Dream Team it was pretty clever how they linked it in with match footage and the results/build up to games actually meant something.

Maybe a 'Ted Lasso' style series?
