It's a new day in Montreal... CCTV fixed and a cold, dry track. The small matter of a 70 lap grand prix await the drivers, and a tantalising grid at that.

Verstappen on pole is aiming for Red Bull's 100th win, but was struggling in dry conditions on Friday. Is it too much to think he could be under threat today?

Alonso matched his front row from 2022 and is in a great position to capitalise in the upgraded Aston Martin, and what of Hamilton lurking in third at one of his favourite tracks?

Elsewhere, the top 10 includes two McLaren, one Haas and one Williams. Another topsy-turvy grid with Ferrari and Perez on a recovery mission.

The race starts in 90 minutes (1900 BST / 2000 CEST).

I can't watch live as I'm on a train (yet again) but hope everybody enjoys it. It's about time we had a crazy race! Not too optimistic it will be today though.

If it’s cold we could see more people going for a single stop or MMH

Typical Sky F1 fluff.

Although Ted's bumbling makes it moderately funny.

Are there any showers forecast, or is it going to stay dry?

Overcast but almost certainly dry from what I've heard.

Going for the obvious but can't see anything other than a Max win again today - hope I'm wrong. The issue (as usual) is if Alonso jumps him at the start, it'll be an easy DRS flyby within 3 or 4 laps. You just can't defend, even if you're Alonso.

Will take Mechanical issues or a collision at T1.

last one to take the lead from 2nd in Montreal was also Damon Hill 30 years ago, so the likeliness isn't particularly high.

So assuming it doesn't finish under safety car how many secs will max win by today? I'll go 18

I cannot watch the coverage yet, is it bone dry and what’s the forecast looking like?

Scatterings of groundhog with a 80% threat of maple syrup in the closing stages.

Outside chance of moose and poutine halfway through.

Today it will likely be about Alonso vs Hamilton (vs Russel?) for P2. Rooting for Fernando, he had a terrible weekend last time. Hopefully he can hold off the Mercs today.

I’m hoping for a dramatic race, but I fear a procession with the colder track

Either way, a proper track.

Unfortunately beyond a first corner crash I can’t see anyone challenging Max for the win today. Hard to recover a car without a safety car around here, which might keep the action close, but he’s going to have pace in hand for an extra stop if he wishes isn’t he.

Interesting to see the relative pace of Merc Vs Aston, should be a nice battle between Fred and Lewis today.

Suspect Merc race pace allied with cold conditions will have Merc overpower Aston today.

What an anti-climax that the track is bone dry... Would be an instant classic again with rain. Anyway, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve usually produces amazing races. Let's hope for the best.

Proper gridwalk.

Well done, Martin. There seems to be a noticeable move away from the cringefest stuff, although I suppose that's the nature of the circuits that we're at at the moment.

The lack of celebrities gave us a proper grid walk where Martin could talk to people he knows.

So LeClerc has already been in the wars, and broken the floor on the way to the grid. Doesn't bode well for his afternoon if he can't stay on the track just getting to the grid.

And people respectful. It's so much better when he speaks to people who know him because they are fans of the sport.

So will Norris have another bad start

Alonso will look to defend rather than attack here.

That’s a tad unfair and fails to understand how hard these cars are to drive. Prost once binned his Ferrari on the warm up lap so even World Champions get caught out.
