The massive differences between the lab testing and this 'real world' testing should disturb us all, and lead to a massive government crackdown on these irresponsible and untrustworthy manufacturers, big fines and ... oh wait ... maybe there is not a lot wrong with the lab tests that a bit of tweaking can't fix.

I suppose I should find whatever the testing people have reported, as opposed to the journo's interpretation, but if 13% is the worst we can all go back to square wun.

😁

The Web page is quite nice.....

The RAV4 hybrid was within 2% of the lab result while the pure petrol was 13% off. So you cannot even conclude that Toyota s a manufacturer is generally off.

The test route is my neck of the woods. What they are calling rural is good quality asphalt , mostly empty 2 lane, some single lane with gravel shoulders,  and everybody else drives at 100 kph except for a couple of 80 zones, doddering around at 60-80 would result in a fair bit of middle finger action. That may explain why the highway and rural numbers are similar (you do have to slow for a few of the bends in a 4wd, but not in a proper car)

I tracked my fuel consumption for ~18 months in the QX80 and it comes very close to the advertised numbers. I typically see 16 - 17 L/100 km in the city and 11.5 - 12 on the highway which seems to fall right in line.
