The glory years of pre-qualifying coincided with the explosion of handy cam sales, so there must be tons of great footage out there.
Like this great home video of Osella's 1990 season:
Say what you want but that Olivier Grouillard helmet design was lit :-)

You've just described 50% of true crime and 40% of all other documentaries. Need for Weed being a good example (and a quite good documentary, even though it leaves quite a few questions unanswered)
OK, fess up, which of our resident stat experts wrote the lengthy trivia piece on that page indicating all of the episode's inaccuracies? My money's on Collombin.

Not much new information in there though, it's like Wikipedia with pictures. Presume the stills aren't licensed either!
Pretty lazy not figuring out how to say the driver names too.

I didn't know the story prior to this thread, only that severall small teams came and went during that period.
The main thing that struck me from the images was how basic aerodynamics was (were?) back then.
I missed the pronunciation as I used subtitles while playing music

I actually think the Andrea Moda was a great looking little car, it has frontal resemblance to the 1994 Simtek in my opinion.
Very much hoping this documentary/mini series gets picked up, it seems to have some very interesting interviewees, including:

Wow. Not the first one making a proper video about them, but it's the first time it's not an almost copy of the old f1rejects site. Not bad!

This video and especially this music just gave me a feeling I hadn't experienced since I was about 7 in the mid 90's. If that decade was a YouTube video, Jesus.

The chassis was designed by Simtek (originally for a potential BMW project) before they entered F1 themselves. Its designation was the Andrea Moda S921, compared with the later Simtek S941 and S951.I actually think the Andrea Moda was a great looking little car, it has frontal resemblance to the 1994 Simtek in my opinion.

I think I read somewhere that it was designed in 1990 for use in 1991. Would have looked decent that year, in BMW colours.

Anyone else on here get to see the cars running(?) on track at a GP.
I was flagging at Club In at the 92 British GP and remember then trying to pre-qualify at 'silly o'clock' on the Friday morning.
Felt sorry for Perry McCarthy crawling round trying to keep out of way of the cars - luckily there were not that many cars circulating.
Luckily for the driver, the car had the decency to break down after a short time.

What a great experience! Witness to history!

Slightly hilarious update to this documentary project, very much in the spirit of the Andrea Moda F1 team, but also showing the filmmakers are operating on very limited resources and don't want to deal with troublesome and expensive legal problems:
* The documentary is no longer called Last and Furious. The filmmaker's lawyers think that'll mean too much risk of legal action from Universal Pictures, who won the Fast and Furious franchise.
* "F1" can't be used in "subtitles" and I presume, any marketing, to avoid legal action from Formula 1 which might risk the release of of the documentary.
The doc is now called: "Andrea Moda Formula: The Craziest Scuderia Ever"
It seems the film was presented in some form at the Venice Film Festival, but is still marked as being "in post production", ie: waiting for more funding?

The documentary is available to stream here:
I haven't watched it yet, but I'm looking forward to doing so when Mrs Tennis permits!
EDIT - i used a URL shortener because the forum tried to make the vimeo link an embed - so don't worry it may look a bit funny but the URL is kosher

20 Euros to rent it, is quite a hefty price. Ill wait until more streaming services are offering it.

I will rent and watch, maybe Friday when immediate plans are to clean house after Thanksgiving festivities followed by absolutely nothing.
Posted 22 November 2023 - 09:20
Watched episode one (of three - 45 mins each) - it's a properly made documentary and very watchable so far.
Posted 25 November 2023 - 22:25
I've rented and watched it in one go, absolutely brilliant. Loved every second of it.
I would be interested why Bertaggia is not in it as they have managed to track down and interview everybody else involved and their dogs.

Watched it tonight and really enjoyed it, a good insight to what went on.
Worth watching for anyone who remembers the team and the rumours and stories that went with it.

It won’t be available in Canada and France though.
Apart from that, great OP & great thread.

That was a joke about how Andrea Moda didn’t manage to get to Magny-Cours due to the lorry drivers strike, and their engines didn’t make it through customs for Montreal.
