Launches are always a bit of an anti climax these days.

You only let it be an anti climax because you allow yourself to get excited and have expectations that usually arent met.

A so called season launch these days consist out of:

- A livery presentation

- Expectations and dreams about the season

- Getting the hype train worked up for the season towards fans

You do not have to expect:

- The new car

When was a launch ever interesting? Maybe when a few journalists would gather at a freezing Silverstone to see a car rumbled round the track for a couple of laps, and be able to peer at the layout of the suspension. There are two worlds: the one in which PR people are delighted by exciting opportunities, and the real world.

The late 90s and early 00s launches were epic.

Who can forget Benetton bring a car on a gondola in Venice or rotating it on the roof of a museum, or Jordan doing a circuit was scantily clad girls in latex, or McLaren bringing in the Spice Girls, or even Minardi having big launch parties. Those were the days...

Also the liveries and sponsor reveals were limited to the launch event itself. Not a seperate thing as it usually is the case nowadays. I remember highly anticipating the Winfield and BMW liveries of Williams when it became apparent that both named parties would have a huge influence on the livery of Williams.

Haas F1 will hold a "shakedown" at Silverstone on February 11th but no word on their official launch date.

From Autosport:

Speaking to selected media including Autosport about the 2024 car plans, Komatsu said: “On 11 February we have a Silverstone shakedown and then two days before the official test starts, we have another shakedown in Bahrain. Then we go into the official testing.”

"F1 team teases PRETTY new 2024 livery", reads the headline here.

The copy reads, "Alpine have given fans a glimpse of what might be to come for them in 2024, with a bold new colour change being teased over on social media. The Enstone-based team, who have historically raced in a mainly blue livery since they re-branded from Renault back in 2021, appear to have designed a livery that contains more of their secondary, pink colour - which they have raced in a handful of times in 2022 and 2023."

Well! That'll shake the pecking order up alright. I bet Messrs Horner, Wolff, Vasseur, Brown and Krack haven't factored THAT into their 2024 planning.

The best Alpine livery was the first one in 2021; it evoked early 00s Prosts with the French-inspired blue. That was a class looking car. But since BTW came in its been more of a dog's dinner of a livery.

From the snippets of the new one, it's going to continue that trend I think.

I hope Alpine is at least getting good money from BWT for letting them ruin any attempts at building some kind of visual identity. The 2021 livery was great.

Its Haas. Or HAAS. However you want to style the letters. But it is Haas. H. A. A. S. Not Hass.

If they show off a real car, then we'll get a preview of some elements of the new Ferrari.

LIVERY launch, not the car launch.
Same as McLaren did last week.

Same as many teams. I think only a hand full of teams will show the new cars. Hence many teams do not refer to the event as a car presentation, but rather a season launch. Share expectations on the season, talk a lot, livery presentation and off we go to the next team.

I suspect only Aston Martin, Ferrari and Alpine showing their real cars.

And yet they refer to it as a VF24 reveal: https://twitter.com/...881329766342853

We all know not to expect too much before seeing the actual cars testing anyway.

No point getting excited about liveries anymore, given they have so many variations and changes in the season now.

And there's no point getting excited about seeing the launch car, as it's not the model they will start the season with.

And the launches themselves are boring corporate affairs now, without the razzmatzz of the glory days of the 90s, so I can't even get excited about that side of it.

Plus the fact the cars all look very similar these days anyway..

I used to LOVE this time of year, including pre-season testing. It's all meaningless now.

Also no point in getting excited about liveries now because they're all half-baked due to weight saving. We've had 4 livery reveals so far that all essentially have a base 'colour' of unpainted carbon, and it looks terrible.

Yeah, I was thinking about this yesterday. In the past, two teams revealing cars on the same day would've been exciting. But now, it's just...meh.

The teams don't actually want to show you their real cars until they absolutely have to, most of them don't even have fully complete liveries anymore and aren't unique, and the reveals are all pretty generic - a few minute long video showing you glimpses of the car from different angles, until it's finally unveiled in a darkened studio with moody lighting. Wow.

It's just meaningless hype that contributes less and less to the actual season with every year that passes, especially in seasons where the regulations are largely unchanged.

Yep I used to set launch times in my calendar and religiously refresh or follow, depending on how they were doing it. Now it's just "oh yeah, they launched today didn't they".

I don't think I've cared too much about launches now, or a decade ago.  It's the testing photos where I wake up every year.

I cant take you seriously. Sorry. Mercedes has sidepods that are vastly different to Ferrari and Aston Martin. Aston Martin has a very different rear wing compared to the other two mentioned teams. Ferrari has a much different front end and side pod configuration compared to the other teams. So no, your inability to spot the differences, doesnt make you a person to take seriously if you shout out like this.

That being said; lets take 1999 for instance. I'll bet you a tenner that you cant spot the difference between the Jordan and the Ferrari of that year, or the Benetton and the Stewart if they were all plain white cars. So its a thing that has been going on for decades. Dont make it look like it is a thing that is a recent problem.

Calm down lol

I'm comparing to 2022 when there were three very distinctive different avenues/philosophies. They are all principally the same now.

Go and have a pint somewhere and cool off.

I think with all the black it is harder to spot the differences between the cars (black used to be used to hide aero after all, before it became a weight saving thing). But there definitely are obvious differences.

Maybe have a pint yourself. This isn’t about restrictive FIA BS. The rules haven’t changes since 2022. It’s just that the teams are naturally converging on the fastest solutions. This has happened since the dawn of motor racing, not matter how free the regulations are.
