The 2023 Formula One season saw the always-popular Team Silverstone reach new heights under their current guise as Aston Martin, with Fernando Alonso bagging eight podiums en route to fourth in the World Drivers' Championship. But after a second half of the season that was reportedly hampered by changes to the regulations surrounding front wings, expectations have been muted ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

Can Mike Krack's engineer team led by distinguished designers Dan Fallows and Eric Blandin allow the green machine to hit the ground running in 2024, and are wins possible? Or will it be a reality check for the performers formerly known as Jordan?

Welcome to the official Aston Martin thread for 2024!

So the AMR24 is the first car that is built completely under Fallows guidance. First sketches were already drawn for AMR23 when Fallows joined mid 2022. And it will be the first car that has, partly, its benefits from the new facilities.

Yet, I cant help it by being reserved. Last year was a blast and a major surprise. But with Ferrari really having upped its game, Mercedes being strong at the end of 2023 and McLaren likely not producing a lemon of a car at season start, I suspect it being very difficult for Aston Martin to regularly finish on the podium.

There are certainly two lines of thinking. I certainly feel a little more doom and gloom myself. I really can see Aston battling it out with a resurgent 'Red Bull 2' or whatever they call the rebranded Faenza setup. But, as you say, with Fallows' influence stemming from the cars inception, surely there is room to think we can be back snapping at the heels of Red Bull?

I really don't know, but  I hope Alonso is in play next season.

Well to be fair; I do not think for one second that there are teams who can beat Red Bull in 2024. Not with the advantage they had in 2023 and considering they will develop their concept and find time on merit by themselves as well. But the group behind Red Bull, the so called occassional winners, yes.. I hope Aston Martin can be part of that on the sharp end of that group.

I tend to agree. Solidifying their position in Formula One's chasing pack has to be the goal. But I don't think that comes from 2/3 podiums. It will have to be more of the same from last year.

I expect 2024 to be a down year compared to 2023 - Down year being a tad relative, I still expect them to finish 5th in WCC, but for Alonso less podiums, and for Stroll likely none.

Not a visible revolution, judging by the renders.

Side view of AMR2024 is best yet IMO.

Gotta be fair, that looks fracking quick! Those radiator inlets on the side pods are gorgeously skinny! Lovely livery too, best looking car so far! Well done AM… now all you need is a second driver 😂

Aside from the aramco sponsoring on the rear wing which totally clashes with the aston martin green, looks nice! More carbon, but still recognizable from all angles.

A proper looker - as to be expected. Hopefully it's quick out of the gates.

My expectations were kinda low towards the end of last year, but that Brazil drive got my hopes up.

A couple of interesting parts - a dish in front of the sidepod inlets, and I've not seen those tunnels at the rear curved before.

Likewise, it just depends on whether they learnt the lessons from when they were in the doldrums.

The front suspension is a push-rod system but the angle of upper arm is nearly RedBull. Interesting the side pods comes so close to the side-diffuser or side-exit of the floor... makes me imagine that Aston Martinis going for more extreme outwash there...

Still the car is a computer rendering, so more changes could happen... looking forward to.

T

his hot-air exit shot makes me think that it might be a wider one, reminds me of Mercedes 2023.

Great looking car and interesting details. Side pod inlets reminiscent of those on the Ferrari in 2017(?) Seems a similar concept, with the intake.

Floor edge looks much more complex than last year, with RB19esque edge wing

The radiator inlet is insanely small. I was wondering if there was another opening hidden in the shadows below the 'shelf' but it doesn't look to be the case:

Perhaps that section of bodywork can be swapped out with the inlet shelf at differing heights to allow for more cooling?

Do we know if Stroll is getting the full 200km today? Or will AM split it?

Both drivers are at the track and will drive. I would imagine Stroll in the morning and Alonso in the afternoon.

I like it. My layman's question is: given the development over the years of the sidepod undercut, narrowing of inlets and so on, when does the "side-pods" become "side-wings"? These pics make the cooling aspects to look incidental (obviously it is not). Perhaps one of several problems Mercedes had with its zero-pod concept was it had no wing type aero effects?

Stroll apparently said that the AMR24 is a 6 tenth improvement on the package they brought to Abu Dhabi, according to Motorsport Italy. Unsure that's a big enough gain from the Silverstone squad.

All the teams should gain more than that since their last race. Either Stroll doesn't really know how fast the car is(most likely) or AM will go backward( hard to believe).

There is no opening under the shelf. The only inlet is on the top of the shelf

Stella talked about 5 tenths improvement to not loose the development race, so makes sense. But that should be the bare minimum for a front team.

Well with Alonso bringing his usual 6 tenths that would mean 1.2s improvement! Not bad, I say

He didn't say this exactly, here's the quote:

“It depends on what McLaren did during the winter. So it's very difficult to make predictions, but I hope to recover the 3 tenths and find another three,” added the Canadian.

He saying they hope to recover the deficit to McLaren that they had at the end of 2023 and leapfrog them. He's speaking relative to McLaren, not saying that AM have found 6 tenths compared to Abu Dhabi.

That adds up to Stroll hoping for over a second gain: 0.3 to catch up to last years McLaren + 0.5/0.6 to match their winter development + 0.3 to pull ahead
