It is damaging the younger drivers coming through, too. They're getting thrown into the top level with very minimal running in current cars...and if they don't immediately perform they then get bombarded with pressure and told they should be thrown away like garbage.

Maybe that separates the great young drivers from the outstanding ones. There's very few seats in F1, so they should be populated by outstanding drivers rather than great ones. That's not saying that they are or that this is the best approach to trying to achieve that. But it can be looked on as one of the ways to sift the wheat from the chaff.

I miss the days where the teams tested week in and week out the whole year. I seriously doubt that this would be much more expensive than what they're investing in simulation tools. And at least the fans would be able to see the cars without having to spend the fortune that a GP ticket costs.

Testing was largely about comparing parts and testing endurance, computers can now do that very well.

Here I remember the old days endless testing being dominated by the teams that did the endless testing....which was only ever 2 teams at a time.

On one side you can talk about here only being 2 teams winning, but when has the grid as a whole ever been closer?

Schumacher + Ferrari = ??

Didn't think it needed mentioning specifically, but 2 teams have won every WCC and drivers title since 2009 (if we count BrawnGP as a precursor to Mercedes).

That's never happened before and is a 15 year stretch, likely to be extended until 2026.
