**The race is on Saturday again, qualifying on Friday, practice on Thursday**
Like a game of Catchphrase, the first puzzle piece of this F1 season has been revealed. Some of you may be tempted to solve the puzzle already and shout "season over", but not so fast! There's still 23 pieces to go.
One week on from Bahrain, we're in Saudi Arabia for the fourth running at the super high-speed Jeddah street track. A circuit diametrically opposed to opening weekend in many ways - layout, tarmac, tyres - gives ample opportunity for the chasing pack to fight back against Verstappen and co.
Who will Charm the Snake for Round 2 of the 2024 Formula One World Championship?
Suspicions for Saudi
After a commanding 1-2 in Bahrain, it's clear that Red Bull have picked up where they left off from 2023. Internal machinations aside, they start the weekend as favourites, but with questions over their high-speed balance versus rivals, and outright pace advantage when tyre degradation is less of a factor. Verstappen's record at this track of 2-1-2 suggests a 1 this weekend to continue the pattern, and he'll want to avenge his defeat to Perez last year, when unreliability befell him in qualifying.
Not to labour the point, but there really are many interesting storylines behind Red Bull this weekend. What can Ferrari and Leclerc do without braking woes, Mercedes without cooling problems, and McLaren at a track perfect for their fast corner aero philosophy? Keep an eye out for Hamilton, as this is one of his bogey tracks, but conversely for Piastri, who many forget qualified P9 last year.
Aston Martin seem to have relegated themselves from the top five to the bottom six after an underwhelming Bahrain. Alonso's 2023 front row and race-leading cameo will feel like a distant memory, if it didn't already. Snapping at their heels is RB (with their own intra-team tensions brewing), a surprise Sauber, rejuvenated Haas and slightly wobbly Williams. My tip for the weekend is Haas - good straight-line speed and one-lap pace, with tyre issues seemingly resolved. The less said about Alpine, the better. Un malheur n'arrive jamais seu.
Tyres and Weather
The first appearance this season for the C4. One-stop expected. Front pressures up 1.5psi vs 2023, rears the same.
Thu - 26C/79F, dry, windy
Fri - 25C/77F, dry, windy
Sat - 26C/79F, dry, windy
A much warmer, but equally blustery weekend in store. Verstappen remarked post-Bahrain that the wind conditions Thu/Fri worked against Red Bull, so worth keeping an eye on again.
