yes, he lost the car under braking seconds before a massive brake failure and a couple of laps into a stuck brake situation.  I'm sure it wasn't related at all.  Think about it; Max's car had a dragging brake for the first couple of laps.

It must’ve been the brakes because he had a horrible S1 and I thought he made a mistake, which could be, but it’s more likely that the brakes were gone. If someone has the telemetry it should be obvious on there?

Max doen't BS. If he says he had an issue right from the start, then he had a issue right from the start. Snagging brake is what caught him out, but he handled it and carried on until the inevitable.

In all seriousness Mercedes need a big upgrade, but they look destined for fourth in the contructors. And Russell needs to stop crashing in high pressure situations (Canada, Singapore, Australia) if he's going to be good team leader.

 

Alonso was unlucky to be given such a penalty but hopefully officials are consistent from now on.

Final thoughts on the my weekend at Albert Park:

- T6 is a great place to watch from on a GA ticket. You need to get there very early to bag the best viewing spots, and there is no big screen to follow things on - but it more than makes up for it watching the cars on the run down from T5 and through T6

- Special shout out to the coffee stand near T6 - it was truly dire. And expensive. And slow - like over a 30min wait! But my (lack of) caffeine induced headache was worsening and at least it solved that. Food options were a bit limited here too.

- I would recommend anyone coming in Gate 5 to just walk the 25mins to Flinders St/the City rather than join the hoards trying to get trams before/after the race. If you are at the other end of the circuit (Gate 10) then it is easier to walk to Windsor train station than join the fight for trams as well. Could walk to Prahan station from Gates 8/9.

- Getting home a bit over an hour after the race finished was a bonus

- as for the race, there was a huge cheer when Max came past with his brakes on fire, and again when he retired. Although not from the Max fan to my right

- Mclaren team orders weren't popular but it was obvious that Lando was faster at that point, so no issue from me.

- LEC was throwing the Ferrari into T6 I really thought he was going to be going spinning into the gravel a couple of times but the rear held.

- Held my breath when I saw RUS so very close to ALO and then saw the rear break away - thought he was headed into the gravel in front of me, but he caught it before hitting the barriers. The Russell fan to my left (they do exist) was distraught...

- I think RIC's race wasn't too bad pace wise. Obviously he finished quite a few places behind TSU and that's not where he wants to be, but his pace seemed ok - track limits in qualy probably lost him a points finish.

- The supercars races were pretty entertaining. I know they don't like being the small fish in the big pond at the AGP, but it has to be a good thing for the series and their sponsors to race in front of 450000 people. Won't be surprised though if they cut off their nose to spite their face and withdraw from the event in future years because they are likely that stupid...

Edit: I forgot to add that the toilets were by far the cleanest portable toilets at a big event I have ever been too. Always clean, in fact most times nature called there was a cleaner there on duty. Running water, flushing toilets and every one I went to worked properly. So well done to the organisers for that

Now if only they could do something about the coffee- it's Melbourne for crying out loud!

I usually had a grandstand seat at the fast chicane (T9/10). The nearest gate was Gate 8. I took the tram once and quickly determined that it was faster to walk to Gate 5 inside the circuit and then up to the city.

Agreed, or get one of the scooter things. There's a double bottleneck at 8 because on top of the trams being full and difficult you have to get over that godforsaken bridge, too.

 

I was lucky enough to snag a hotel room just across the road from Gate 1, and even with the crowd at the end of the race, I didn't feel like it took too long to get out on the pedestrian side.

Waite is sorely underrated as a stand, I sat there in 22. It's a great spot. The only issue is that it's seriously unfriendly if you're mobility impaired in any way.

- Audi should put all of Sauber on notice - fix your **** or most of you will be terminated.

- Williams trashes another car and cannot race the next 2 events at all.

- RB tells Ricciardo that he's got 3 more races to beat the snot out of Tsunoda and if he doesn't - he's out in favor for Liam.

- I want the audio of the RB brake exploding!

 

Gotta admit - F1 has really stepped in it this season when it comes to the Andretti deal and more. Nearly every race so far has shown that the series is needs new leadership and vision IMO.

Again, I will add the Brake Magic Button Debacle to it, as well.  I'm not saying HAM doesn't make mistakes, I'm saying if I had to bet on a driver in a series with all equally prepared cars, HAM would be my choice over everyone.  

 

As far as the mistake thing goes, we all make them. It's deliberate crap I have a problem with.  Like Brake Checking or parking on top of a competitors car, as examples.  Mistakes, no problem. Malice...big problem.

You really think parking on top of a car was an intended move? Now i have read it all on here. Also strange that you fail to mention Silverstone ‘21 in that respect, its funny how he could hit the apex all of a sudden when fighting leclerc later in the race.

I'd blame the lethal sausage kerbs for Monza, and the outcome at Silverstone on sheer misfortune. Otherwise, both were fairly clumsy light touches, with unfortunate consequences that at other times would bring about a brief tutting, rather than continued angst.
