The angst in the various team threads is overdone.

All teams take development routes that do not pan out; they have peaks and valleys over seasons; sometimes, they are good, and sometimes they are not.

The past five seasons show the usual teams finishing in the top five; the doom-and-gloom comments across the team threads do not reflect actual performance.

  • Mercedes's worst WCC finish 3rd
  • Ferrari  once outside the top 5, other than that 2nd or 3rd
  • McLaren solid top 5 season after season
  • Red Bull, the dominating team
  • Renault/Alpine the cautionary tale shows exactly why Manufacturers entering as Manufacturers can easily have the team finish poorly. Indictment against the very idea of entering, 2026 will see the arrival of Audi, making it even more challenging to finish in the top five or better.

Re: Alpine, it is inevitable that some team or other is going to be in the bottom few places, and nothing to prevent it being one with a big manufacturer's reputation involved. That is a risk to the brand of competing in F1.

I agree with your overall point. Fans are only happy if their team is dominating, and think of 2nd to 4th best as being Armageddon. It's the ones who have had a spell in the sun who are most aggrieved, having never questioned it before. I think Ferrari, in particular, is regularly downplayed as if it has been some sort of disaster over the last ten years just because it hasn't won a title. Without detracting from the need to strive for P1, it is overdone. Quite a bit of it is probably the lack of distribution of wins when one team is dominant, which is always. In other words, factors like track layout or weather/temperature don't seem to be enough to change the order. Again, though, people who were happy when it was one team in command cannot use this aspect as cover just because they don't like it being another team. Having your driver in a top four team is a reasonable position, and the best should be able to entertain us from there.

I’ve renamed the thread to indicate the topic you appear to want to talk about and dissuade discussion of particular fan groups, which is of course against the House Rules.
