What are your favorite F1 events in general?

I think it'd be neat to make a "competition" of sorts of forum members preferences. So let's give F1-style points to your favorite events and let's see how it evolves! Each member can vote once and I will update score table every once in a while...

Here's the F1 point system:

1st place: 25 points
2nd place: 18 points
3rd place: 15 points
4th place: 12 points
5th place: 10 points
6th place: 8 points
7th place: 6 points
8th place: 4 points
9th place: 2 points
10th place: 1 point

Here's the GP list:

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Australian Grand Prix

Austrian Grand Prix

Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Bahrain Grand Prix

Belgian Grand Prix

British Grand Prix

Canadian Grand Prix

Chinese Grand Prix

Dutch Grand Prix

Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

Hungarian Grand Prix

Italian Grand Prix

Japanese Grand Prix

Las Vegas Grand Prix

Mexican Grand Prix

Miami Grand Prix

Monaco Grand Prix

Qatar Grand Prix

Sao Paulo Grand Prix

Singapore Grand Prix

Spanish Grand Prix

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

United States Grand Prix

NOTE: This is about current GP events as they are, with currents circuits they currently race on. Your reasoning may be whatever, just remember that this is about the events in general

Oooh. I like this.

Would be even better to do it but with the ultimate f1 race ranking - we get to pick from every individual race through f1 history

I suppose it depends on how you choose to rank them. Atmosphere? Quality of racing? Track layout? Historical significance? Something else? I'll have a think and post later

My rating is based off how much I like the track overall and also enjoy racing on it (in f1 video games), but also overall enjoy watching on tv when they race, and its hard to put ratings exactly especially for the first few, but something like:

1.Japanese Grand Prix 25
2.Sao Paulo Grand Prix  18
3.Emilia Romagna Grand Prix  15
4.Spanish Grand Prix  12
5.Dutch Grand Prix  10
6.Belgian Grand Prix  8
7.Hungarian Grand Prix  6
8.Monaco Grand Prix  4
9.Austrian Grand Prix  2
10.British Grand Prix  1

1. Japanese Grand Prix 25 Points, challenging track for drivers and errors are punished and always a shade of weather invovlement

2. Belgian Grand Prix 18 Points; it has THAT corner, lang straigth, a tough chicane. A great circuit all around

3. Soa Paulo Grand Prix15 Points; Brazil always has something special and in general racing is very good over there!

4. Italian Grand Prix 12 points; The temple of speed has its name for a reason and is one of the classics! And its the home grand Prix for ferrari

5. Monaco Grand Prix 10 points; The entourage of this one is one of a kind. But also the gp in itself, its often a dull race but imagine goign 72 laps between walls at high speed!

6. Dutch Grand Prix; 8 Points, a little but of patriotism here as a dutchie, but i do liek the layout of the track, the banking corner towards the straight

7. Australian Grand Prix;6 points It should be the opener of the season.

8. British Grand Prix; 4 points; another one of the classics and a great circuti as well.

9 Canadian Grand Prix; 2 points; the wall of champions hasn't claimed a victim in racing recently but the walls are close on this one

10. United States Grand Prix; 1 point;  COTA is actually a track i like, and of the 3 in the us this one appeals the most to me.

Monaco Grand Prix 25 points - Traditions and atmosphere are so special: they take you back decades. Totally unique compared to recent street circuits.
Australian Grand Prix 18 points - Full of nostalgia and atmosphere, whole weekend has gotten so much better thanks to feeder series.
Italian Grand Prix 15 points - What F1 is about. History can be seen and touched (old oval), unique high-speed character, best crowd (according to Lewis)
Japanese Grand Prix 12 points - Greatest and most challenging circuit, great memories from the 90s, best crowd (according to Lewis).
Dutch Grand Prix 10 points - Wonderful old-school (i.e. punishing) circuit, crazy crazy crowd, weather can spice up the show.
Belgian Grand Prix 8 points - Great traditional circuit even if neutered in the 2000s, so much memories, unique microclimate makes the weekend unpredictable.
Canadian Grand Prix 6 points - Unique location, so many memories of classic races here, high probability for SCs and lottery.
Austrian Grand Prix 4 points - Most beautiful location of all, track limits need fixing, weather can be unpredictable, F3/F2 always provide action even if F1 doesn't.
Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 2 points - Gorgeous surroundings, beautiful track, nostalgia is strong, gotta love the tifosi.
British Grand Prix 1 point - Tradition is strong in the home of motorsport. Too much tarmac runoffs now. Best crowd (according to Lewis). British weather always surprises.

For me it's the atmosphere and the history, the strong support race package, the circuit layout that makes every minute of every practice session exciting to watch – and the fact that it's a race that every driver wants to win. :)

I guess it depends if you were watching F1 in the 70s and 80s. I wasn't, so this atmosphere and glamour is lost on me. All I see is a procession with a fun qualifying format, in the capital of rich c*nts with a boat. Seeing the cars struggle to make the hairpin on 3 wheels makes me physically cringe.

I much prefer the atmosphere at Silverstone (British hype), Monza (especially when Ferrari wins), Suzuka (the Japanese fans are fun) or even Austin (the DTS crowd that turned hardcore). The atmosphere at Monaco for me is a feckless Prince, and celebrities that do not care for the race at all.

1. Italian GP, Monza
2. Monaco GP, Monte Carlo
3. Canadian GP, Montreal
4. Belgian GP, Spa
5. Japanese GP, Suzuka
6. Saō Paulo GP, Interlagos
7. British GP, Silverstone
8. Emilia Romagna GP, Imola
9. Austrian GP, Red Bull Ring
10. Australian GP, Melbourne

That was hard but clearly I’ve got a preference for traditional circuits. There are others I like too, Baku, Spain, Zandvoort, Singapore. Australia would have been top five till recently but I really don’t like what they’ve done to the circuit, taking out so many of the challenging bits and making it feel much more like a modern street circuit.

This is very unscientific but those in power should really look at what 'the fans' are looking for - There results very clearly show how actual real race tracks is the thing.

From the voting so far, Belgium is clearly living off of past glories.  Current F1 doesn't fit it's climate.  And many corners have been Tilke'd.  Apart from a famous hill, it's all fairly bland medium speed corners, which F1 cars eat for breakfast, and the races unsurprisingly tend to be very bland too.

Nice thread. I've tried to be as fair as possible on this and rated each circuit out of 5 for the following:

1. Driving challenge - is it enjoyable and challenging to drive?

2. Raciness - Basically, ease of overtaking.  DRS muddies the waters somewhat of this, but I decided to highly rate circuits where it works, even if its too much at times.

3. Jeopardy - Are mistakes punished? Are track limits a problem?

4. Climatic Challenge - Does the circuit have a high chance of inclement weather, or does heat pose a challenge? (night races are based on nighttime temps)

5. Heritage - Does this race/circuit have heritage value? I've tried to count both here.

6. Atmosphere - Does the event have a good atmosphere, both for the fans present and what comes through on TV?

7. Fan Experience - What's the fan experience like? Is it good value for money, easy to get to, well organised, memorable, etc? (harder to rate for races I've personally not been to, but I've gone off what I've read from others' experiences over time).

8. Aesthetics - Do the cars look good on this circuit? Can you see immediately what circuit it is if you see a photo? (i.e. is it iconic).

I think converted this to a percentage (score out of 40, minus 8 given lowest possible is 1, so % is based on X/32). Where there is a tie, I've determined based on highest average score between Challenge, Raciness, Jeopardy and Heritage, which are the most imporant to me. If still a tie, then driving challenge alone decides.

So my final rankings are:

1 Sao Paulo Grand Prix 87.50 25

2 Japanese Grand Prix 87.50 18

3 Belgian Grand Prix 84.38 15

4 British Grand Prix 81.25 12

5 Monaco Grand Prix 81.25 10

6 Dutch Grand Prix 78.13 8

7 Canadian Grand Prix 75.00 6

8 Australian Grand Prix 75.00 4

9 Singapore Grand Prix 71.88 2

10 Hungarian Grand Prix 65.63 1

11 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 65.63

12 Austrian Grand Prix 65.63

13 Italian Grand Prix 62.50

14 Las Vegas Grand Prix 59.38

15 United States Grand Prix 50.00

16 Spanish Grand Prix 50.00

17 Miami Grand Prix 43.75

18 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 37.50

4) Austrian GP - 12

5) Japanese GP - 10

6) Monaco GP - 8

Basically, take me back to the year 2000, lol.
