Have you ever seen cars turning left? Would you like to watch... let's see here... 25 hours worth of it?? Then boy-howdy is this your week!

Schedule (all times are local Eastern Daylight Time times)

Tuesday, May 14:  9-11am

Tuesday, May 14:  1-6pm

Wednesday, May 15:  12-6pm

Thursday, May 16:  12-6pm

Friday, May 17 ("Fast Friday")  12-6pm

This all leads into Qualification Day 1 and 2, next Saturday and Sunday.

Some caveats:

a) It's the American Midwest in May, and so the weather can be anywhere from snow to rain to more rain to excessive heat.  Practice may be delayed or cancelled at any moment. But remember, there is always a window over Terre Haute.

b) Not all six hours per day may be action-packed, but you can pretty much guarantee a good show in the last hour each day ("Happy Hour") when it's an all-skate and everybody tends to go out and get in some race simulations.

c) Some amount of time early on Tuesday will be set aside for rookie and refresher testing. The rookies, obviously, are rookies, and the refreshers are anybody who hasn't raced at another oval within the last year, which will theoretically include former Indy 500 winner Tony Kanaan, who retires every year only to be drawn back in with a deal he can't refuse. In this case, he's Kyle Larson's (McLaren) backup driver in case Kyle runs into issues getting to Indy from his NASCAR obligations in due time.

We have 34 entries (for 33 spots) this year:

AJ Foyt Racing: Santino Ferrucci, Sting Ray Robb
Andretti Not-So-Global: Marco Andretti, Marcus Ericsson, Colton Herta, Kyle Kirkwood
Arrow McLaren: Callum Ilott, Kyle Larson ®, Pato O’Ward, Alexander Rossi
Chip Ganassi Racing: Marcus Armstrong, Scott Dixon, Linus Lundqvist ®, Alex Palou, Kyffin Simpson ®
Dale Master of the Coyne Racing: Katherine Legge, Nolan Siegel ®
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing: Conor Daly, Ryan Hunter-Reay
Ed Carpenter Racing: Ed Carpenter, Christian Rasmussen ®, Rinus VeeKay
Juncos Hollinger Racing: Agustin Canapino, Romain Grosjean
Meyer Shank Qvist Racing: Tom Blomqvist ®, Helio Castroneves, Felix Rosenqvist
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing: Christian Lundgaard, Pietro Fittipaldi ®, Graham Rahal, Takuma Sato
Team Push-to-Passke: Scott McLaughlin, Josef Newgarden, Will Power

Helio Castroqvist?

I mean, since he's part owner of the team, you have a valid point.

I propose we call it Meyer Shank Castroneves Racing, shorten it to MSC, and have hundreds and hundreds of signs in ever corner advertising the team.

Will be very curious to see how Kyle does-  I think he's actually racing a sprint car this evening.  Does that guy ever stop and relax???   (though did I hear he flew to Paris to see Taylor Swift before Darlington?)

Sure enough, and he brought along his McLaren pal Johnny Rutherford with him, way down in Kokomo.

Practice today 9am ET!

Looking at the weather, it looks like there will be time to do install laps, then an extended lunch break, then some actual running before an early dinner.

That would be kinda fun though. For someone who is only 37, his career the last few years looks more like someone in their late 40's early 50's-

Just a thought,

Imagine what kind of qualifying sessions (and results!) we would get if there is little to hardly any practice time available due to the weather.

Or what kind of improvisations onto the schedule in order to allow a decent amount of practice time one way or another.

Been thinking the same thing.

Imagine asking everybody to become a latter-day Ziggy Snider (i.e. being asked to qualify a car despite barely any practice time)?

No disrespect at all intended to Katherine Legge—she was the fastest Rahal driver last year after all—but there’s no way she in a Coyne car should be a more valuable pick than Kyle Larson in a McLaren, even if it is only by like 5%. There are quite a few drivers Larson should be priced higher than, unless they wanted him on everybody’s team.

Indeed. And while McLaren 2024 isn't anywhere as strong as Andretti 2014. I would say that Larson is likely better than Kurt Busch in open wheelers, and Busch ended up 6th.

I watched him work with the engineers and when he came off the stand 3 of the guys threw high fives and smiles.

Kurt was very impressive. I think there are aspects of modern Indy (mostly surviving and thriving in late race restarts) that seem to require a certain amount of racing experience. But I'm sure he'd have won one if he'd committed to coming back each year.
