I just saw this today on YouTube, a good history of 'On the gas' Danny. It  has a few things that I never knew and many that I had forgot about. There are many great period clips as well.

PS-I was going to put this in the found on YouTube section but I thought more would see it if here as a standalone.

I really enjoyed this video - learnt a lot more about his career. I first became aware of him in his F1 outings - very diverse career and he came across as a decent guy. Very grounded. You can see why Mario Andretti spoke so highly of him.

I learned how his name is pronounced.
Not ON-gays (as I thought all the time), but On-GUY-ess.

I like the Onthegas!

Interesting film about a drag racer who went IndyCar racing.

These days Indy Car drivers go Drag Racing,, and racing Crown Vics.

But Lee, you so underestimate the tiger-like prowess of the Crown Vic.

Let me clarify, a good cop car (mostly for having a cavernous trunk to hold misbehavers), but otherwise quite useful for car chase videos in cities, where it’s obvious the Chevy Vega will emerge victorious.

Great video, Thank You, Bob!!! Same guy who did both the Smiley and Revson videos “completely out of the blue” and a great trend of work in drivers chosen. Loved it.

I didn't know about the discrepancy in Danny's reported age. I remember reading something about Roger Penske being somewhat exasperated with Danny's choice to remain under the promotional radar, when it seems to be a requirement for Penske drivers to engage in activities promoting corporate visibility - now more than ever.

He was a military veteran, God bless his soul.

I wonder if here are any vets racing any where nowadays; maybe in sprint cars.

Watching the 'Cleetus McFarland' races for You Tube celebritys in Crown Vics it is quite amazing the punishment they take. 'Worn out' cop cars that with minimal work go racing and generally take it. And are reasonably quick doing it
