On what planet are the ratios giving 99 percent experience to Alonso and 78 for Leclerc, 80 for Stroll etc.

E.P ic fail. It's in the game.

Experience is the least controversial stat here. I think it's based on objective measure of how many seasons of experience in F1 each driver has.

Overall, I don't think the stats are too bad. IMO Alonso, Sainz and Perez slightly overrated (maybe Albon too) and Ricciardo should not be ahead of Tsunoda and maybe a bit harsh on Sargeant to be 10 points fewer than the next driver but overall it's not too bad. Only needs minor adjustments to be 100% accurate.

I would go with this for right now (making full use of the range):

Verstappen - 96
Norris - 88
Leclerc - 85
Russell - 81
Alonso - 79
Hamilton - 78
Sainz - 75
Piastri - 70
Ocon - 65
Hulkenberg - 63
Bottas - 61
Gasly - 60
Albon - 58
Tsunoda - 55
Perez - 51
Ricciardo - 45
Magnussen - 38
Zhou - 29
Stroll - 26
Sargeant - 12

They’re always good for a bit of debate these, and I never agree with them really. But aside from knocking Alonso down to maybe one point below Leclerc, Hamilton et al, and taking a couple off Sainz and Ricciardo, I think the rest are ok. Ish. I feel sorry for Logan Sargeant though, he might as well change his name to Mahaveer Raghunathan.

I'd swap Hulk and Perez.

Piastri seems a bit low as well.

LOL, Stroll better awareness and racecraft than Tsunoda! In fact equal to or better than 8 drivers in the field on racecraft!

There's a lot of things that are clearly wrong, but that's subjective right?  I'm sure we'd all change dozens of those metrics and we'd all still be totally different to each other.

Standouts quickly for me, other than the Stroll thing are, Perez too high, Carlos a bit too high, Piastri a bit too low, Yuki too low.  I wouldn't mind betting if these were redone now, rather than perhaps a month or two ago, those four drivers in particular would be tweaked somewhat, and Danny Ric dropped a bit too

but see, that's exactly what's wrong with these ratings.

You end up as good as your last race(s) and talent clearly doesn't change that much.

Agreed, but in this instance I think that they were most likely doen before everyone settled into the season and trends developed, so we are left with an outdated, and distorted model.

Yes there will always be swings of form, but the bigger the sample size to work with the better....

The numbers do not reflect the actual driver by greatness. For example because the Aston Martin is a bit crappy, Alonsos numbers are inflated to give him chances of one off good results in game.

If the cars were equal then you would see a proper driver cards and numbers.

To know if they have it right we need the car performance also.

That is why it looks iffy. Also this is initial game build. They always tweek the driver cards first week of release. So Yuki will get better Alonso reduction.

What do they actually mean by awareness?
Is it how aware people are of that driver, i.e. how famous they are?

If so how in anyone's opinion is Lewis lower than Valtteri, I get Guanyu being high because of China but Hulkenberg? Or is this purely based on Drive to Survive stats?

These ratings are nothing more than a generalization of something that is not measurable in any way.

Released simply to cause debate and discussion about the game.

These are for the F1 game, right. So they need to be as good as your last race. They need to reflect current form rather than some sort of overall career rating. So when you’re playing the game, the AI drivers are roughly where they should be.

They might not be measurable, but they have to be programmable.

I genuinely LOL'D at this. Good point.

I assumed it's obviously driving (spatial) awareness, but now you got me thinking...

If it was popularity then that would be far too subjective, and difficult to do on a global platform.

How do you program experience?

Less chance of crashing into other cars or binning it into a wall, one would think.

Or personality. Like Ocon his proneness of driving into teammates?

Probably the easiest one. Proportional to years in the sport.

What do they actually mean by awareness?

From the official game website.

RTG The most important number on the grid.

A combination of all driver stats that lays out each driver's ability within F1® 24.

RAC The masters of the overtake.

Racecraft describes a driver's ability to work their way through the pack to finish the race higher up than where they started.

EXP Experience counts here.

This stat has been amended this year to determine how much value each race result contributes to the driver's experience in the earlier and mid stages of their career. Fernando Alonso's record of race starts is used as the max points for the experience rating, sitting at 99 points.

PAC Turning the timing screens purple

Pace rewards the drivers who get closest to the fastest Race and Qualifying lap times as well as the difference to their team mates.

AWA Time Penalties cost wins.

Awareness rewards drivers who avoid the stewards' room. And for the ones that don't, the severity of errors now counts more towards their Awareness rating.

I wouldn’t pretend to know Codemasters’ AI algorithms. But it’s essentially the same an any NPC in an RPG. They need stats to work from, and someone has to plug in some numbers.

Well, this is stupid.  The whole point of Top Trumps is to make a game which involves some degree of skill.  For that to happen you need a variety of scores, not everything in the 80s or 90s, and a card like Verstappen's which is unbeatable in 3 of the 4 categories is a game-breaker.  Even in Star Wars Spacecraft they made sure that e.g. the Death Star was crippled by a hideously low speed.

Should have put in a category like Fairness On Track.  That would at least have meant low scores for a good few.

I miss F1 2010 where if I wasn’t influencing the front Webber stomped every season.

Or F1 99 on the N64. Great game within a game trying to make your teammate champion by damaging all other cars. Can Panis take a title in the Prost!
