I first saw him at Catalina Park and Warwick Farm in an little Brabham, which he drove very neatly...

He went to England and finished up in F1 with Team Lotus.

In latter years he's been more or less secluded in North Queensland (Airlie Beach) and it's only because an old school friend of his passed on the news that we now learn he has passed away last week.

Oh, I'm very sorry to hear that. I briefly corresponded with him a couple of times, he came across as a very nice and friendly man.

Just to give some context to that he was secluded in Airlie Beach as it might sound a bit worse than the reality, they lived in a really nice house in beautiful Mandalay, just off Airlie Beach with wife Jan.

He attended the 2011 Australian Grand Prix but I'm not aware he had much contact with the motorsport world otherwise.

One who is perhaps remembered through the distorting lens of "not making it", when by any standard he was a brilliant racing driver. So impressive in F3, and - while this may not have been his priority - brought great pleasure to all those unwashed enthusiasts standing trackside.

RIP Dave Walker. The master slipstream winner in F3 back in the late 60's. Didn't get the breaks in F1 unfortunately but as mentioned previously, he was a "real deal", top shelf racing driver.
