I was thinking of going to the FIA euro drag racing euro finals at Santa Pod in early September and I looked at ticket prices. I saw an option which I thought was really useful in British weather and would help a multi day Histoirc event like Silverstone .

Basically the SP tickets get more expensive each day  with Saturday and Sunday tickets at £39.

However if you pay £46 you get a flexible ticket for any one of the four days of the event.

Now with the British weather being so uncertain that seems to me to be great for punters as if Sunday looks washout you can go any other , hopefully, dry day.

As al tickets are in advance the organisers do great as they just sold a Sunday ticket for £46 insted of £39 so they don't lose.

Of course you can't realy run Top Fuel in the rain so it has more benefit than a circuit race but I though it is very good idea whicht is prety much "win/win" for spectators and organisers.

As I have often  said , mainstream  motorsport has much to learn from Santa Pod when it comes to customer care. Access all  areas, super customer care , reasonably priced and very informative programmes, brilliant colour commentary and  non -stop action. And noise that would wake the dead ...

That's a great idea for small events but unfortunately impossible for serious ones as there is a certain capacity they can't exceed for safety reasons, so they can't have everyone turning up on the one day that is forecasted to be sunny.

I don't really buy teh capacity aorgument for Silverstone or Brands .

Silverstne can cope with 100,000 plus spectators on F1 race day and is fully fitted out for large crowds before the "Classic" due to the MotoGP date.

Brands used to get 50,000 spectators for a big clubby and most of the longer circuit is bereft of spectators at Historic  events

It might be true of other circuits of course

Never been to SP but that ticketing policy seems an excellent idea.  I don't visit events as much as I used to but the weather does influence my decision these days.

The best tickets I used to obtain were the ones where my brother purchased a ticket, gained access and then passed it back through the fence, discreetly of course. Then pass-outs and rubber stamps on the hand put an end to that.  You can blame me for price increases

It's not only about the absolute capacity of a venue like it would be at Goodwood but also the staff and supporting infrastructure, toilets, food, parking lots, public transport, etc., that they can't easily scale on the fly.

No good at the Pod , mate. I've had my boot searched there in 2017  . I asked if it was bombs - this wasn't long after the Ariane Grande bombing in Manchester , and they said 'nope, we don't like bottles'. I dare say I wouldn't if I had 8000bhp under my right foot, with 300mph under 4 seconds away ...
