Norris also screwed up T16.

But he should have been far enough ahead of the cut-off time that he would make it into Q2, even with a lift for yellow.

Well, often we complain about the FIA and lack of transparency, but this is very, very detailed about what was checked, on which car

Video from Albon's garage shows that his mechanics didn't actually forget about the airbox cooler, but he was released too early when they were still trying to remove it: https://x.com/racefa...998807337001245

Lando will be fine. It's not the worst track for overtaking and even on pure pace he can at least be ahead of Red Bull. Throw in a SC and he could fight for the win.

Yup, theres gonna be a VSC or SC

Easily

That mechanic was lucky not to get run over.

Considering the amount of arm waving and shouting going on it seems strange that Albon was out of the pitlane before the message to stop reached him. You would think his engineer would be straight onto him.

Williams have been fined €5000

Don't understand why Norris didn't just complete the lap. He was way in the timing needed.

I think Norris felt the lap was not good enough. Now we need data of micro sectors to make a judgement, which we don't have.

How the heck have the stewards not penalized Williams for an unsafe release yet?

Should be at least a 5 place grid penalty.

They have fined Williams €5000.

Unsafe release is a fine in practice and 5 seconds in the race. I don't think anyone has ever been given a grid drop.

If the Mechanic had been run over by that rear wheel, is it still €5000?

Where does that fine money go?

I did a quick check by recording the onboards and I have him 0.175s slower than Piastri before he aborted.

This tracks with the sectors because Lando was 0.109s ahead at S2, then he made the small error.

Without the yellow he would have lost maybe another tenth bleeding time down the straight, but he was comfortably safe. Piastri's gap to Alonso was 0.439s.

I shuddered watching that, gave me flashbacks to Raikkonen breaking one of his mechanics legs at Bahrain 2018.

Lando should gave drive normally. Got through and fought it after.

Or done a Mika Hakkinen Special, arm up one handed to acknowledge the yellow flag. No penalty like in the 90s.

Regarding Albon. As described they made the mistake ( fine ) but did not impede others. Also aborted the run.

Best of a bad situation.

Actual a thoughtful smart stewarding for once.

F1 stewards VERY lenient on yellow flag infringements I agree Norris should have finished the lap, hes was too sporting there.

Exactly what George did, during a very similar scenario. No excuse for Lando aborting the lap. That's not on the FIA at all. We see short yellow flag periods all the time.

This track has always been a 1 stop I think?

I didn't think road circuits were forgiving on tires. I'm not too sure of this tracks history. Should be interesting either way - the grid is well shook up.

It certainly was last year and it seems like the hard tire was able to go the full distance

Why oh why did Mclaren|Norris decide to have Norris so near to Ocon, Autosport goes in the detail, about why it was everyone else's failure, that Norris had to abort the lap. All I gathered, if McLaren had a guy being as smart as that journo with 20/20 view, then no sane team had  released Lando so near to Ocon, and simply avoided the situation. Possibly Norris even on pole position. So while the Mclaren|Norris combo has a fast car, then brains there are still lagging it seems. I know not everyone will agree with my view, but to anyone of those I ask a question, haven't we seen in many seasons, that were close that playing it smart, was the way to win the championship? That means thinking about taking as little risks. And putting out Lando in vicinity of Ocon was a risk, looking at how Ocon's weekend went so far.

Norris wasn't anywhere near Ocon at the start of the lap.

Ocon hit the wall at turn 4, which caused a puncture. Ocon then continued around the track at slow speed, and was only caught by Norris after T16.

McLaren could have avoided the situation, somewhat, if they had opted to do their final run earlier.

If done earlier, Norris should have had time for another lap. Certainly they didn't feel the need to put on new tyres to get a time to get out of Q1, Why did they need to put him out at the very end of the session?

I have doubt that Norris would have got anywhere near Leclerc. So pole was only an outside possibility, IMO.

It's not. In 1.5 weekends he has shown a great deal of speed and maturity compared to Sargeant. That is for sure.

Lewis starting from pitlane. Two of the leading cars starting from the back now should make it that bit more entertaining to watch. I do worry this race would become a procession like last year without them being out of position.

Norris starts from P15 so should be in the top 10 within a lap or two. All to play for

That may not be the case. DRS trains being what they are and everyone running low drag rear wings. Overtaking isn't easy here.

I'm sure Lewis won't mind giving Lando an extra couple of points, there's a miniscule chance that Lando beats any of Lewis' records, but a very strong one that Max does.

It's perfect weather. Sat in the grandstand in the sun, but none of the humidity of the last few days and a nice breeze to keep cool. If only the beer I'm drinking was something other than Heineken and it would be perfection....
