Luca De Meo already complaining that he gets too much calls to sell Alpine. He said he's not selling and the company doesn't need the money. After 2026 it will be really difficult to get into F1.

More or less confirmation that the team is up for sale, then.

I don't think De Meo will sell as he's a bit of an enthusiast but if Renault will get a new CEO (which has been mentioned as likely somewhere on the forum) the chances increase dramatically.

His comments about the value of the team and the F1 entry, laying out out the logic of keeping the team, seem to me to be more directed at people closer to home than the readers of the article.

"Every fortnight I get calls from financiers, eccentrics, who want to enter F1. They know that after 2026 it will be much more expensive.
"I won't sell, I'm not stupid. Being in F1 is essential for the Alpine brand. We are in a closed club. It brings credibility for the brand among motor racing fans. We don't need the money."
…
"Two more years like that and the project would have deflated completely," said de Meo, who described new principal Oliver Oakes as a future great.

Yet they said it was 30hp and requested unfreeze. If it was 10hp I suspect they would not ask for that.Viry engineer said that their current engine is lacking only 10HP and that their 2026 engine looked very promising: https://www.eurospor...418/story.shtml

An embarrassing failure given that they loaded the turbo hybrid gun that killed them. That being said, this move is surely... good?
They have no reason to sell, the team is making money. Now those profits will be turbocharged. With a decent chassis in 2026, they could be Williams in 2014/15.
The mood in Enstone is probably celebratory. But yes, their identity will be gone and with it any reason to particularly support the team.

What a shame.....
I saw a comment by someone on The-Race.com: "ridiculous but smart". I think that sums up this decision.
Of course it's easy to say your engine was going to be 400BHP faster after the project is cancelled

The Question is why would Renault sell. Okay they would get Money now but what do they need money for?
Also if Renault leaves now, it will be Almost impossible to reenter since F1 has become a closed 10 Team Shop.
You say that, but F1 has made it pretty clear they'll bend over backwards for a manufacturer to enter.

Every big organisation continually reviews its activities and subsidiaries, introduces new ones, discontinues others which haven't met targets, creates new brands or disposes of old ones. What does the Alpine F1 team contribute to the Renault group? Views will differ, but there'll be several Renault directors who think "pas grand-chose" (not a lot).
