Oscar said he was struggling in Q1 and Q2 and it all came together in Q3.
It often looks like the outside that he holds back until Q3, but potentially he just continues to learn and improve.

Solid result! Anyway better to have George in second than Max. Now lets have a great start and see a tyre deg race.
ps congrats Oscar on first of many poles!

Not to underrate Oscar, which has been brilliant the entire weekend, I think Lando abandoned when he saw the McLaren 1-2 was locked in, but didn't expect Russell to steal P2 out of nowhere.
In any case, congrats to Oscar for his first pole on merit.

He had a mega 3rd sector.

Great pole by Oscar!
Lando's been struggling with sector 2 all weekend - only time he really nailed it was in Q2.
Fingers crossed for a 1-2 tomorrow.

No.. Lando abandoned because he was down on his fastest lap

Happy with pole, clean air is going to be crucial tomorrow.
Not as confident, but hopefully the team made enough changes to fix the tire deg issues for the race.

Really close between them, McLaren have a great team
Well the gap here is to Russel, it was 1.5 tenths to Norris but they are very close in qualifying.
Piastri looks like he may have made a qualifying step so far this season but it’s a long year.

No driver doesn’t have off-weekends. But the best drivers still finish 2nd or 3rd when they do. I’d say Lando did well today considering the field is bunched up and he had a terrible sprint race and qualifying.Nah, he needs not to have them.
Having no confidence in the car and still putting it 3rd is pretty okay.

3rd generally is a better place to start here because you can carry a lot of speed round the outside of turn 1.We have been struggling with finding the optimal set-up this week. In sprint weekends, when you start in the back foot, it is pretty difficult to sort it out. We need good and clean start and control the race from there. I would prefer George to swap positions with Lando but still there's everything to play for. Oscar has it in the bag if he gets a clean start.

Fantastic pole from Oscar. Great. Lando is not on this weekend. Well the race is tomorrow.

If he could replicate his Q2 lap, he would have done around 1.30.5 considering track evolution. Race is gonna be different story. Strategy will be key.

He finished 8th in the sprint, simply not good enough. The car is fast so he needs to make the most of it and he didn’t this weekend. Hopefully he turns it around tomorrow.

No one really cares for the sprint.
As shown by the noise made about Oscar's first pole position. The sprint poles are meaningless.

Maybe the sprint pole is meaningless, but last time I checked the points from the sprint race still count towards the WDC and WCC

Unless you have a stinker like Norris had. You likely gain/lose 1 or 2 points compared to your main competitor. Thats nothing over a whole season.Maybe the sprint pole is meaningless, but last time I checked the points from the sprint race still count towards the WDC and WCC
