Several members have mentioned today on the "T-Minus" thread that they cannot see pictures in the forum threads. This problem started today (first observed about 9 am UK time). I am one who cannot. My software components, all bang up to date, are as follows:

  • Windows 11
  • Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge

I've tried both browsers with the same result.

Edited to add: I'm using wifi on Virgin broadband. And I've checked an unrelated forum (alfaowner.com) which displays pictures on my laptop.

I'm having the same problem - no images visible. USA, Spectrum wired NOT wireless, desktop NOT phone.

Me too. Chrome, win11, private browsing as always so likely no cookie etc issue.

Strangely enough the pictures show up in my own messages in their preview window. After submit, they're gone  :rotfl:

Problem still persistent for me, so gave Bing and Firefox a try. Both in 'private browsing' mode (though due to my first usage of them for this site, or any other site for that matter, I'm not sure that matters much).

Those two browsers also display - heh - the problem: no images visible on the forum, yet perfectly visible in the preview window (either when quoting a msg with an invisble image, or starting a new msg).

Lol - I thought I was losing my mind yesterday. Me as well, W10 and Chrome, can't see anything.

I'll try other browsers and see. Funnily enough, with Chrome on my phone it's fine.

Update Edit: Doesn't work on either Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Opera. But it does work on my mobile so I don't know lol

Also it works on my desktop ONLY if I enable the Mobile version. The default and Atlas F1 themes do not work.

Now this is weird.  I can still see images but a lot of shots on the Countdown thread have suddenly become smaller than they were earlier today.  Hope they haven't vanished altogether by tomorrow!

Can folks do a test?

Here's a post about Toranosuke "Tora" Takagi, driving an Arrows A20 at the 1999 Monaco GP.

Are people who can't see the embedded image able to see the image if they click the image's URL?

Can those people see it in the edit post bit if they try and quote me?

Thank you very much, chdphd, you are obviously onto something.

I tried to find out how to contact technical support, but that doesn't work either. I went to this "Contact" page: (Edit: even the url I copied and pasted has disappeared now!) where one link takes you to the home page, so nothing to do with contact at all, while clicking the supposed link to "Feedback" resulted in: "You are looking for something which we could not find for you."

Just spitballing here...

So, combining that with what others have said, it seems that missing images are inside an HTML element which is specific to the desktop "list posts" view.

Might be a css class name which some browsers are seeing as a risk and not displaying it.

No idea what the fix is.

I'm on Windows 11 using Firefox and all is fine. So far.

For anyone happy inspecting and editing live HTML.

Go to

https://forums.autos...ead/?p=10846395

Right-click over the post and click Inspect.

Find the <img element in the code. Double-click to edit it and remove the bbc_img classname and click enter. Does the image display now?

You may only see the helpful image below if you quote this post lol.

OK. I tried that myself in Edge where the images aren't displaying, so that's the issue.

The max-width and max-height attributes are disabled. But it's not that. Re-enabled them doesn't fix it.

I can confirm that removing the bbc_img classname does make the image display where previously it didn't.

OK, so a change has occurred, EITHER to the forum code (possibly an attempt to improve speed, by using the class name concept). OR to some common component present in operating systems such as Windows 11. The latter seems extremely unlikely. If it's a bug in the latest upgrade which upsets the operation of browsers, you'd expect it to be Windows-only. Yet it's been mentioned as affecting Safari, which presumably runs on iOS not Windows.

I realise our own mod and admin team has no formal connection to the website technical team, but does anyone know how to contact them and report the problem? I'm reluctant to bother Autosport's editorial team for the contact information, helpful as they usually are.

So I didn't have problems until today, when images are not showing (Windows 7 & Firefox for me). I tried erasing the class="bbc_img" as you indicated and the image showed. I haven't tried with my newer computer yet (that features Windows 10)

Today, they're now not showing in Firefox. I posted a photo a few ago and was well. I have rebooted since.

Images still work in Chrome but not Edge.

This is a weird one.

I can't post any screenshots as I don't have an image hosting account, but here is the code with the bbc_img class that I see:

<img class="bbc_img" src="https://i.ibb.co/HLbgxGQ0/015-25.jpg" alt="015-25.jpg">

If I change to <img  src="https://i.ibb.co/HLbgxGQ0/015-25.jpg" alt="015-25.jpg"> then the image will appear.

I have a Mac laptop, the images are not showing in any of my browsers (Firefox, Safari, Waterfox).

Photos are not being displayed here since yesterday. Weirdly, I can see the pictures I include when I edit the post, but it doesn't display on the thread itself.

I'm on a Mac, using Safari. I've made an attempt on Opera but the result is the same.

W10 and Edge, Chrome still working correctly for me. FireFox does not.

However, if I switch the theme to "Mobile Version", using W10 and FireFox images appear.

This is a very recent issue, and most probably a bug.

So give the people running this website the time to do something about it. Coming up with this sort of ultimatum regarding a freely available part of the website, what's more on a Sunday(!), strikes me as uncalled for.

I seem to remember this problem from a couple of years back, same forum.

I'm trying to pull from memory here, but I think it had something to do with you having to configure your viewing options for mobile, not web.

Not sure why that was, but at the time it did it for me.

Will investigate and post an update here.

To those still struggling, I remember the workaround for this:

If you are on the web version of the page (which is where the problem seems to occur), scroll all the way down until you find "Change theme".

Click on that and select "Autosport Mobile".

The page will come back and the UI will definitely be a lot worse, but at least you should be able to see the uploaded pictures again.

Not sure why this works and why the regular web view stopped working, but at least for me (last time), this was temporary.

So basically do that and every so often try to change back to Full Mode to see if they fixed it, and hopefully one day it'll be sorted out.

Hope this helps!

Pascal, I accept your criticism, but my view remains that whoever at Autosport is responsible for Forums performance should have been on to this by now, even if it just to state that this problem is being worked on..?

Are Forums freely available to non-subscribers? I am, and have been a subscriber for many years so I wouldn't know.

Let's hope that this matter is sorted out asap, I'm really missing the progress of  the Countdown thread.

I can't see it embedded in the post.

I can see it here in the reply screen as I'm typing this.

I can also see images I've posted in the editing screen, but not once the post is posted.

I can see it just fine at the url.

This seems to have started about the same time as the multiquote problem.

I'd like to echo baggish's thanks to those labouring behind the scenes to fix this. Also, thanks to those on this thread who gave (hopefully) useful information; to chdphd in particular, who gave some great leads.

And just in case the originator of the error is hanging his head in shame, don't worry, this is a motor racing forum, where we're used to the very best spinning off and smacking the wall.

Hello, just to keep you all updated, dev team is aware of the issue and has identified the cause. A fix should be ready soon.

While responding to this I might have stumbled upon another bug, if my assumption that "Multi Quote" means that you can respond to more than one post: You can't! (Or rather - I can't)

Anyway, the problem with the images is the lines in the CSS code that I described here: https://forums.autos.../#entry10847299

It's not rocket science.
