The only complaint I have is this "shimmery" effect I get on some of the cement fences and grandstands. Also the split times, are oftern hard to read and fuzzy if they are in sunlight, but fine if against trees, mountain or dark sky. Anyone else noticed that? Not certain if its my TV, or maybe some of my settings on my TV, but its sort of annoying. I'm using a 36" Sony Trinitron(3 years old) but I can't imagine it being the cause of problems.

I'll let you know in a couple of hours what I think.

The graphics and video quality is superb, as you would expect.
Otherwise, so far it seems to behave a lot like GT for PS1, which is still IMO the best car control model of any game (with GPL right up there also).
Also picked up Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero and Midnight Club because they had good reviews on some web sites and I find the idea of driving around cities and highways flat out without concern for consequences very appealing. Haven't had a chance to try them yet. I love Driver for PS1 (You are the Wheelman!). Would be cool to see that upgraded.
Are there any good F1 games for PS2 yet? All they have here at my local store (USA) is F1 Championship Season 2000. I noticed several of you say 2001 Sony game is pretty good, but it's not NTSC format. Any others show promise?

but what i have found with those nissans is that they are a bitch to drive.. for example, in GT1, my fastest lap times were in the FTO limited edition, which had almost half the power of the nissans mainly as it was much lighter and had far better handling..Originally posted by Ivan
Has any one conquered all the licenses yet. I stoped trying for a while at the ia but, I have some of the rally. I've finally found a car to kick some major butt. It's the Nissan R34. After starting the game with the miata and getting it up to performance it's great but, not quick enough. I also have the Lancer Evo VII GSR completely decked out. The Evo is helping me win the money to fix up the R34 which I have just kicked the engine up to over 900 hp. It will upgrade past 1kbut, I need to do other work to it first. This weekend I'll try to get the other licenses.

I've got all but, the S (1) and Rally (5 or 6) completed.
SB,
You are right about the Nissans' taming 1k hp is a b*tch. I have been on the practice tracks for about an hour and I think I have the set up right now.

arrggghh! i want a PS2..Originally posted by MattB
I have passed all license tests up to the Super License final which is at the Monaco track. I haven't done the rally tests yet at all. I haven't started racing in the simulation mode yet, I have been picking away at the tests as it always gives me a good idea how the different cars perform. This game is an absolute blast!

The Monaco track is awesome. And I find it easier to drive in GT3 than in the F1 games I own.

BTW: Corvette Z06 is a real great car, and if anyone finds a way to make lots of money fast please post it, I’m getting sick of the Miata.

I got real annoyed at the game last night trying to beat the 80’s spots car class and have decided to put it away for a while and go back to GT2, atleast for a day.
hahahaha oh poor thing the games to hard hahahaaha.
Please....
The reason why i gave up on playing video games was because they were just farrrrr to easy. I remember playing really hard games once upon at time but it seems over the last few years its only been about graphic quality and the gameplay/difficuly has gone to ****.
If GT3 is as hard as people say it is ill go out and buy a PS2 just for it.

I'll give a tip on winning an F1 car. Okay here goes. Sorry, you'll need the Super license. But anyway, buy or win a deacent race car (Gillet Vertigo, Mazda RX7 LM.....). Set it up for the test track, that is make it go fast! Maybe install a harder tire compound on the fronts. They will wear out slower and this will give you a longer pit window. Enter the "Like the Wind" race in the Professional league. I know, 20 laps. If you are up against the GT One race car exit and try again until you're against the Mazda 787B. Race and wait until you hace at least a 25 sec. lead, then pit for tires. After winning the race you'll win the Mazda 787B. Go to "tune up" and buy a turbo kit. Yes it will now have 900+ hp. Enter the Dream Car Championship. After you have enough points that you're sure you will win you can skip the last 1 or 2 races. Make sure you SAVE after EACH race. When the game gives you a bonus car, if it is not the F1 car, turn the game off and keep trying 'till you get the F1 car. Remember to SAVE each race. I only had to shut it off once. It's cheating, but isn't that what F1 is all about?

yep, i know the save and turn off bit but, i'm also going for the 100% race to win ratio.
yeah, i watch the demo's that is how i won the first S license a week ago

you are right about the series races, that IS where the money is.

you'll love this game. did you get the book?
iclt,
i forgot to add, i do have over two mil in actual prize money won but, i only have about half a mil in my coffers. It's hard not to buy cars in this game. considering that the garage will now hold 200 cars instead of the 100 from gt2. I have a few 1k hp beasts. i have added to my (S)uper license total i need 5 more and just 3 for
®ally.

Does anyone happen to know what the deal is with getting a chipped ps2, esspecially in the UK? With a broadband connect, I will have access to some games this way.

(I dont have reference here so apolgise if its slightly wrong,,,but)
F688/S
the 6 is the cylinders (or 0 for V10), the 88 is the year and the last letter is the drivers surname, so from that you can see that althought its in a different livery the car is the Mp4/4 which Senna drove in 1988
Six cars in total, although two are the same Williams FW?? which Senna and Hill drove.

Thanks for that info. I haven't won one just yet but, have been wondering what the reference numbers are. I have the book but, it doesn't show them just the names.

What did you race? And with what car?
By the way welcome to the WOW club. I'm in the middle of an endurance race. I just paused it to take a break, my thumb needs a rest. I'm several laps ahead on the Tokyo Route 246 race.

Unfortunately I started off by buying a MX5 (I think) but it was crap and I hated it. I upgraded it with engine tweaks and turbos and eventually had enough $$ to buy a decent car. Remembering GT1, I bought the Mitsubshi GT3000. If you get all the bits it goes to about 1083HP!

Keep playing all the minor leagues such as the first two in the first league and win 'em all and get the bonus cars. Sell these immediately as they are crap. Get the engine upgrades and the first two turbos. You might also want the weight reduction and some transmission stuff to help acceleration.
A good course to get on just to earn $$$ is the test course in the turbo cup - in the beginner league. You get 5000 credits by winning and if you get turbo stage 2 you can be fairly confident you'll win each time. Keep playing it (very boring) until you get some decent money and grab a lot of the rest of the upgrades. Don't bother with turbo stage 4 or weight reduction 3 as these are *very* expensive. I haven't got any of the LSD stuff either 'cos I have no idea how it works. You'll definitely want the super soft tyres - at 45000 or so credits they are expensive but worth it. Set up your car with high gearing (setting 37 or so) and lower its ride height to the absolute lowest.
Once your car is fairly decent, enter the final competition in the beginner league. You get 10000 credits for winning each race (there are 10) and nice bonus if you win all races. Using my GT3000 I was able to win them all first time out and bought rest of the turbos and the weight reduction stage 3, giving my car a grand total of 1083HP.
Once your car is a screaming hotrod, you can start on the rest of the leagues. I'm finding the 10 lap or so blasts a bit difficult as my car is struggling for grip on medium tyres as it has no wings or adjustable downforce to keep it on track. I am saving up for that nutter Suzuki Escudo mentioned above as I had this in GT2 and it was *wild*. I've got about 200K credits at the moment and I only need 800K more.
I love the rally bits. They are hilarious. Of couse, a GT3000 isn't supposed to be rallied but it's a blast. I got a Citroen rally car for winning the SS5 wet thingy, worth 65K and sold it immediately. My overall favourite course is the Tokyo R246 one - great fun!
This game is awesome! Well worth the wait. And I'm finally using my PS2 for something other than watching DVDs...
