Hey gang,Originally posted by pRy
BTW.. you seem to suggest you can switch from Auto to Manual while still racing, how do you do that? I thought that could only be changed in the out of race settings?
What I meant was - when you are in manual the cpu still starts the car for you at the start. So let that momentum carry you into the first corner before shifting yourself.
pRy,
Remember I threw my controller down in an earlier post and thought I broke it? It was because I was a tenth off as well.
I'm off again gang.
I had the holiday off but, now it'll be awhile before I post again. pRy before I come back I expect you to have the super license.
So here are my stats:
Complete 70%
Total money won $10,736,500
Race wins 360/360 100%
Cars owned 84
Total miles raced 10,928.9
Car value $37,868,380
Bonus Cars won 88
Trophies 383
Money in the bank $5,807,994

Yeah, u are right. But I already have a Microsoft Sidewinder FF steering wheel attached to my PC. I play Colin McRae and NFS Porsche Challenge a lot. But I reckon that steering wheel doesn't fit the PS2? Or does it? (would be the best news in a week)
Besides that, my livingroom isn't that big and it already looks like a tech-center. So adding another steering wheel would be to much. But i agree it's more fun.

Does anyone bother with the car setups? I find i just stick on a good set of tires up the power and go for it.

I don't know GPL, so I can't compare them. On the PC I play Collin McRae rally 2.0, NFS Porsche Challenge a lot. But GT3 is the best IMO. Just because the cars are so cool looking. Besides that it's great to tune them, shop for wheels etc. The car handling is pretty ok, I think though I haven't played the game with a steering-wheel yet. These things together with the sometimes absurd speeds (400km/h+) make the game a must for car and driving fans. But to answer your question, I think the game has a bit of both, relalistc and a bit of arcade.

GT3 when I first played it was wicked. The graphics are ****ing amazing and the feel of the cars is not bad. I long for a sim that models things like hot hatches etc on the PC. So had a few races and thought this is fun but then things started to annoy me.
The AI are as dumb as you like. They don't even know you are there and this simply ruined it for me. Driving next to another car and they just drove straight into the side of me because they were programmed to get back onto the same line. Also, out braking into a corner, they still turn in and hit you. Even if you are ahead they still turn in and hit the rear half of the car. Very dissapointing.
The tracks also felt very arcade like which I hate.
What I did then was set up a Clio spec race at Monaco and it was great fun but in the end I was playing with the AI. I could had got past much earlier as I was much faster but I knew I would be hit or turned in on so I just waited for the exact moment.
So, fun but very frustrating. If the AI was good I would go out and buy a PS2 and GT3 tomorrow but I know I will get very frustrated and bored with it very quickly just because the AI is so programmed, predictable and fixed.
Also tried F1 2001 and this was terrible, simply terrible. Not even worth mentioning.

Which F1 2001 did you try? Was it the EA Sports or the other one?

Ah, not sure. It came with that F1 2000 DVD. Had a green cover and I think Murrey was doing the commentry. Does that help.
I am so annoyed that GT3 has crap AI. It was so much fun to drive.
