'Mario' was a pseudonym for Dr. Massacurati, a cousin of Tazio Nuvolari, living in South-Africa.

I checked my list at Leif's home page and it says there that Mario Massacurati (Bugatti) won the 1936 South African GP. So, most likely it is all the same person.

Oldtimer,
This is all I could find, snippets out of books and nothing from my magazines. :)

If this was the Mario who won the 1936 SAGP his name was then Mazzacurati. It was later changed to the softer Massacurati.

He got his competition license in 1926 but seems to have at first raced motorcycles.

Are we sure that the 1928 Morrocco GP racer was this "Mario", because the nickname could have been used by others?

Was the winner of this 1928 race called Georges Rost?

And is the Georges Irat a car that he had something to do with the manufacture or design?

I believe he was Maurice Rost, and I have him finishing second in the 1928 Moroccan race
He drove George Irat cars fairly extensively, but what other connection he may have had with the manufacturer I do not know
