THE ATLASF1 GRANT TURISMO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.

RACE #1: THE MIDFIELD RACEWAY GRAND PRIX

DESIGNATED CAR: MERCEDEZ-BENZ CLK55 AMG

Our first race takes place at Midfield raceway. Popular with drivers and fans alike, it’s a fast-flowing course, with an emphasis on straight-line speed and power, as opposed to downforce and cornering ability. Tyre wear is medium-high due to the high-speed nature of the circuit, which should test the braking and stability of your car to the fullest.

The Mercedez-Benz CLK55 AMG, our first race car, is a monster of a vehicle. In standard form, its 5.4L V8 engine produces over 340bhp. This gives it a power-weight ratio of just 4.537, impressive in anyone’s books. However, with a few tweaks, power shoots up to 600+bhp. A big car, the key to a fast lap will be in the braking. Too early, and you lose too much speed. Too late, and you’ll find yourself doing donuts in the run-offs.

Post your times here. You can post as often as you like, or simply edit your single post with your updated times.

Have fun!!

NEXT WEEKS RACE-CAR: Mitsubishi GTO.

Best time so far (running in Arcade free run mode) :
1.10.246

Time history :
1.10.400
1.11.543
1.12.201

NEXT WEEKS RACE-CAR: Mitsubishi GTO.

This might be a problem : I don't think this car is included in the PAL version, and it may not be in the US NTSC version either. Definitely it's not at the dealer's in my PAL version and I couldn't find it this online list of cars:

As well, I am using free mode in Arcade.

Best time so far: 1'10.171 (I'll have a screenshot up in a bit when my friend comes over with it.)
History: 1'10.673, 1'11.533

Also, an Idea for the league. How about whoever wins the round has to post their setup?

Excellent combination of car and track Jforce. Drives really nice around the track.

I was stuck on low 1'11 for ages and I just seemed to be going slower and slower... until I realised my power was down to 582. Quick trip to the oil change and I was up to 612 bhp and immediately got down to 1'10'400.

Welcome Kanisteri, who takes the place of Squidgy, who has yet to front. If he does, we'll find a place for him, but preference must go to current BB members :smoking:

Some quality times gentleman....it tight at the pointy end of the field. And its early days...another 6 days should see times dip below the 1.10 mark by a fair margin...

Welcome indeed The Kanisteri! Our team really needs you cause I'm yet to go under 1'12.

That is 1'12.015 for TT6 (after a few setup laps with heavy fuel... some traffic also and I made a mistake in the penultimate corner.)

I'll get time to play it today. Dont really use internet over weekend (I guess that'll have to change :)) so this is the first time I saw it.

As for the CLK55 and 3000GT. I have both in my garage, thanx JForce ;)

Jammy bastard  ...I had to fork out about 200 grand for the CLK, but I have to admit it drives real nice.

As far as times, so far I've only managed a 1:13.354 which is 3 seconds off the pace, and that's about 30 laps or so. By running a bit more the BHP should come up a bit, currently on 600 dead... so another 10 or so BHP will help slightly.

My best time so far 1.11.792
Last night I did about 7 laps and that's the best time I could do.
I did not any set up work. The car sucks, has no grip no traction and no balance.
speaking like a F1 driver ;)
After I did all the upgrade with the car I got 565 bhp then I changed the oil
and went up to 595 bhp, I changed the oil again and went down to 594 bhp,
weird isn't?
I'm going to try some set ups tonight and do more laps and see if I can trim down
2 secs that I need to beat the best lap.
Hey OZF1 who did you do that time bastard? what's the trick, did you hit the wall
going into the tunnel?
How can I get more bhp out of the f*****g car. anyone can tell me?

I found some interesting thing:
Soup up whole mess
Change oil
You have now 595BHP

Drive few laps (5-10) as free run
change setting and you can notice that BHP has increased a bit!!!

I don't know how high horsepower will raise but my CLK55 has now 603 BHP. :D

I had exactly same thing 593 then 603 after driving a bit, then after 30 laps or so I had 582. Visit to oil change and I now have 612!

Ok, now I have a decent time:

1'10.916.

But in no time I will get it to 1'10.4 (I'm half a second faster than my personal ghost 'till the right hander entering the first tunnel. Then I screw it up). I think there's a few tenths in the last tunnel as well.

1'09.888

I know I can go quicker, but connecting in every corner is so difficult. Screenshot will be up tommorow.

Good work everyone. In my first crack at it, my best was only a 1.11.765, so Ive got plenty of work to do. Im having lots of trouble with the sweeping left-hander after the tunnel, thats where I lose most of my time. :(

I see you're on the "steering wheel" team.
Did you set that time with the wheel?
Do you think there's an advantage to using the wheel?
Which wheel are you using?

Not to say that the time wasn't down to stupendous driving of course ;)

Thats an awesome time. So far I have nothing left. In fact, I haven't gotten into the 9s since I turned that one.

It was set with a wheel and I assume it helped. It's the Logitech G-Force Wheel. That lap was the only lap where I got the long left after the first tunnel perfect. Haven't been able to do it since. I thought about trying a pad to see what I'd run with it.

Know what you mean, after my first 9'ner i was stuck in the 10's for for about forty or so laps.

I'll keep trying. My car has 595 bhp and I think that's the main problem.
Of course I have to improve my driving but the car is not helping.
I don't know what to do to get more power.

Not there yet! No it's 1'10.635. Damn I'm close with my team mate The Kanisteri...
I have more or less half a second hiding in the first sector, so with a little bit of luck my time will start 1'09.9..

Does anybody know why there's two similar 3000 GT's in the dealers?

TT6 - look closely at the pics of the cars, the newer one has a rear wing and a revised body, I think it looks better than the one with no wing...for the same money you get better looks and more downforce, that's the one I'm gonna buy :smoking:

I'm getting very confused, on a typical fast lap here are my approx splits :
21.1
42.9
1:10.500

So where ozf1 is taking 25 seconds for the last sector I'm taking 27.5... Anyone have a clue how I could lose 2.5 seconds on (I assume) the left hander before the last tunnel?

man, im running the damn thing, and i suck because i cant get my **** together!!
That pitifully slow time of mine (1.11 something) was set in a low HP car with no setup. I had forgotten that I was 3 races into a 10 race Formula GT championship!! So ive only just bought the damn CLK for good, and modified it, still got to run it into 600hp, and run some serious laps.

As many of you have said, the hard part is the sweeping left after the first tunnel. Do you take it tight, or run wide? These are the questions that consume us gentlemen!!

I see some of you are posting screenshots. If its a hassle, dont worry. Im willing to trust that everyone is reasonably honest (never thought id say that on Atlas).

A couple of people have said that the car/track combo works well. Thanks. My aim is to mach cars with tracks as much as possible. Because I sure as hell aren't interested in trying to set a good time in Monaco with the Escudo. That would just piss me off, and be no fun.

After running about 25 laps having forgot to perform weight reduction I thought I was a hopeless case!! The best I could manage was a 1:12. After having realized what an idiot I was and properly reducing the car to race weight I eeked out this time in about 3 laps...

1:10.425

I will be back at it tomorrow night. I'm going to make it down to the 8's.
