RACE #2: THE LAGUNA SECA RACEWAY GRAND PRIX
DESIGNATED CAR: MITSUBISHI GT3000 VR-4
The second round of the championship takes place at the famous Laguna Seca raceway. With its mix of fast straights and sweeping corners, with a couple of tight turns (including the infamous cork-screw), Laguna Seca is often a challenging proposition for drivers. It also has plenty of elevation changes, which will test your ability to keep the car stable under braking.
As we discovered after the first round, things are close. Very close in fact. There are some excellent driver amongst us, and I’m sure most of you will agree that the championship is at times far more exciting than the real thing (Go Schuey go).
1000hp. Say it again. Slowly. This weeks vehicle, the Mitsubishi GT3000 VR-4, is capable of over 1000hp. That’s a lot. That’s more than either the Ferrari or BMW V10’s in this years Formula1 cars. It’s a hell of a lot more than the Illmor/Mercedes in the back of the McLaren. And I’m not even going to talk about Honda…
As many of you have discovered, the GT3000 is an understeering pig-dog of a vehicle. It’s straight-line speed however, is impressive. Your ability to tune the handling of the car to handle the unique challenges of Laguna Seca is going to be put to the test.
With the championship now moving into a week-on/week-off schedule, the car for the next Grand Prix will be announced at the conclusion of this weeks racing.
There are several notes that will accompany this announcement in a further post, so be sure to check those out.
Have fun, and Good Luck!!
