Not so from my opinion. Vostok is "soviet" translation from Easter (in all non cyrillic lands).

And what does Пасхой (Paskhoy) mean, then? 

 

 

To reiterate, I think there's a misconception in non-English speaking countries what "Easter" means! I don't speak Russian, nor can I read it, but all available translation software is agreed on "Easter" translating into Пасхой (Paskhoy), and восток (Vostok) translating into "East", or maybe "Eastern", but certainly not "Easter"!

I'm sorry, Andrzej, but I couldn't find the issue discussed in any of the two linked articles* 
 
So you're saying, Formula "Vostok" is the mistranslation? I'm intrigued then, how did the Easter name come about - was the formula conceived over the Easter weekend, perhaps? Or was it a two-fingered salute to the Communist Party, which usually eschewed anything to do with religion? It's just a very unusual name to give to a racing formula, especially in those circumstances!

Michael, the discussion is pointless. Formula Easter is a common name that has nothing to do with Easter holidays.

In USSR/Russia - Formula Vostok (it means East), but in Czechoslovakia, DDR, Poland, Hungary and Romania - Formula Easter.

In Poland, later simplified to the Formula Ester.

Anyway, I think you're right, too - it's pointless to debate if the error is that old and ingrained in people. Similar, perhaps, to the Voiturette misnomer. C'est la vie.

Surprised to see Stamo Iljev prevail, he didn't amount to much in the international events. Third must be Apostolov, who was the best placed Bulgarian in the Cup that year, I believe. Kazakov only sixth, Naidenov ninth, Ivanov 11th and Stanchev 14th, is what I can make out. Why is Atanas Atanasov listed twice, in 12th and 15th? Senior and Junior, perhaps?

The 1988 Bulgarian national championship consisted of four rounds: in Ruse, Sofia, Sliven, and Albena. All of them were held on temporary street circuits except Sliven, where the venue was an airfield. My source of information is the monthly "Авто-Мото Свят" that never mentioned exact dates of the events, but one can guess that the first round must have been held in April, since the race report was published in the fourth issue, the second in July (7th issue), the third and the fourth in September (9th issue).
