BB changes- Your input needed

For several months now after a reboot the BB is super-fast and as time goes by - hours and days -- it slows down.
It's suspected that the links to different pages in multipage threads could be the culprit.
For example, FP has been trying to post a 150 lined post around 13Kb today with no luck.
Now, these can either be removed and see if things speed up (If it isn't they can be put back), or kept.
So, to remove or not to remove- that is the question.

My only suggestion would be to put a BB link on the bottom of each news item... there seems to be a link to everything else there. I don't think i am the only one that checks out the news first then jumps on the board.

You blind?
There is a link to the Bulletin Board at the bottom of every news story. It looks like this:
[ Homepage | Forums | Bet Your Nuts | Chat & Live Coverage | Bookstore | Search & Archive ]
p.s.
I have no problem with the BB speed either

I'VE FOUND the PROBLEM....
there is a tiny black mark near the top of the page, when you are posting it's located bteween the 'F' and the 'o' in Forum and halfway up to the top of the page.
same location on the other pages also.. probably a bug planted by A.S.S., more on that later

Secondly - Sally it IS slow, sometimes but not all the time. I have to admit though, for me anyways, when AtlasF1 is slow, it is PAINFULLY slow! Other times it is fine.
Could I be permitted to make a suggestion here?? Eliminate the actual posting of images within a thread. This really slows everthing down and the same can be achieved by simply putting the link to the image on your post. This way we can go and look at any images which 'sound' appealing! Meanwhile we are not waiting forever to see people's Desk Tops because one door-knob posted theirs 3 times!!
Just a thought Sally...

I just got this message when I attempted to post, I have zero images in it, however I do have a numbered list, up to 10 and bold text all over it, any ideas?
sometime later.......
I went back, blew away the [list=1] and did a manual list, this time it wouldn't post, it's not very long but it does have a lot of individual bold formatting in it
and Sally you saw my FAQ posts, any Idea why that couln't load as ONE topic?
I'm beginning to think it may be the amount of formatting I do. Then again we have just had a race, would high activity on 'Reader's Comments' impact on the'Paddock' ??
just out of curiosity I'm going to try my last post with NO formatting and see what happens
------------later
no luck, keep getting 'timed out' error
back to what Andy said, maybe images should be be limited to thumbnails, everything would load faster then.

It's leaking resources, not over image posting problems.
And you could not look at the thread if it doesn't take your interest either ;)

Sally, pardon my ignorance but what do you mean by leaking resources??
Also, sometimes a thread does look interesting but I end up giving up because it has so many images that it just takes too long to load. That was the point I was trying to make.

Andy, not to sure how to explain, but here goes.
Well, when the server reboots the BB is fast, but as time goes by it slows down and then speeds up up server reboot and so on.
So, I was trying to help find the problem when I came across this in the documentation for the little page numbers
A word of warning to those with busy boards: The hack performs extra calculations on EVERY single row of the threadfile that is being processed by forumdisplay.cgi (though it only acts on threads that exceed the post limit). This may or may not affect the performance of your UBB if you have high traffic.
This may or may not as I've said be affecting to board, but it sounds like the culprit
But, everyone hasn't noticed any probmlems.
And, about the desktops, just wait and see...
Slick- Topic's which are untouched for 4 months get pruned I *think*, the oldest topic I can find in this forum is from 03/02/99.

Sally,
Just because I rarely frequent this dusty old part of Atlas doesn't mean I NEVER do. We all know you're a slob.
