 Linus.

Geez, I have to get a better wheel first. It's really stuffed now -- the wheel has free (no resistance) motion. The gearshift and buttons wouldn't even work if I hadn't opened it up and reconnected the wires (which fell off).

BTW, it's fake how you can take Eau Rouge flat.

My current best hotlap -> 1:48.257

(Skill level Ace, no driving aids)

I'm not going to go much faster, I know I could knock another 2 tenths off if I had the perfect lap , but apart from a radical change in setup, that's my limit.

Would a replay of the lap be proof enough?

Also, Linus, with that carset you sent me, I can take Eau Rouge flat (the plank needs adjusting, though). :p

Can you take it flat, everytime like it was a walk in the park? Say you were in a race, could you and would you take it flat comfortably with that setup? I find that the slightest bit of woble and your screwed. I find to take it comfortably I need to lift a tad in the middle.

Linus,

Yeah, it's pretty comfortable, but you need to make adjustments to your line. Since Geoff Crammond obviously didn't make Eau Rouge as tight as (I think) is real, you can take several different lines, not necessarily having to hit the right apex, which is the bumpiest part -- using your carset, just avoid this hitting that apex (drive around the middle of the road, and you will still make it easily), and it should be all right. The plank needs to be raised though, since it goes red after a few laps (the car planks down all the straights, etc.) :)

Oh thats right, be all nice and licky in here and humiliate me by being able to take Eau Rouge flat. :lol Don't think I have forgotten about the Neve Campbell topic.

Serioulsy, what times are you doing at Spa. 1.52 with no aids so far but I find that setup does not have a very good top speed so I am trying a Hockenhiem setup which is faster but has less grip. Still along way to go to get near Wishbone's time. :)

Cheats, let's say we don NOT MAY USE THE PERFORMANCE EDITOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .dUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can tell me what you want, but a 1:47:xxx with the normal power of the cars just isn't possible........ at least, ........ send me the setup!!!! [ pm ]

My setup limits me enourmously then!!!!! I only reach 190 Miles per hour at the MAX!!!! :( I ALWAYS get the eau rouge with 190, full trottle!!

Do you guy's notice the strange sound it makes just "in" the corner?????????????;)

Anyway, I need a better setup, or just play with the performance editor, right? What's the limit?

1:47 is certainly NOT impossible infact I just did 5 laps at spa and I already did a 1:48.2

it's just a matter of practice...

Cpt. Crankcase,

I got GP3 as soon as it came out, but I only started lapping spa and trying to get a setup when frans started this thread.

Is anyone using packers? I want to but it means through eau rouge I effectively have rock hard suspension and lose it through oversteer.

I will certainly steer clear of the F1 game threads on the BB once Im back home and set up, as theres no point in taking part if every person who does a good time is going to cause losers to start huge cheating abuse threads.

Ill compare my times with you guys but I certainly won't waste my effort posting them

The GT2 threads are an example of how it can and should be.

Sad

Don't go, please stay. You can verify times with a replay so no one can cheat. Please stay and take part. At the end of the day its only fun. If someone accuses someone of cheating then all the person accused has to do is send in a replay or post a screenshot. Simple.

Thanks again.

Slightly OT: Does anyone think the computer (on ace) is easy @ Montreal? Maybe it's because I've been playing that the most, but I can easily pull away from the leaders in the dry. In the wet it's hard because of my wheel etc, but in the semi-wet (ie. still on soft dries but the track is slightly wet), then my performance vastly exceeds the computer's.

I don't think so, I think its because you play that track a lot. I am pretty invincible at Silverstone ;)

i'll have a go at Spa this afternoon and post a time up later!

Well, it's actually quite easy to be faster than the computer on slow corners and chicanes -- they are very bad at braking, and also (as a human player) you can drive very 'generously' over the rumbles, since GP3 doesn't really spin you. Basically @ Montreal, you can really make up tonnes of time at each of the three chicanes, and also at the hairpin (leading into the back straight). I'm not sure if it does much, but I always cadence brake (even since I first got my wheel, I'm not too sure why), so maybe that helps me in the hard braking zones...

I have to admit that I cut a bit on the Bus Stop chicane, but considering what a shitty lap it was, I think I lost more than I gained.

is that lap done with wheel or keyboard? I want to compare myself to the other keyboard-hotlappers out there.. my best so far is a 1:47:9, with keyb and no driving aids.

I dont know about GP3, but does anyone else think that in most games, using driver aids might make it easier to achieve okay times, but most definitely dont allow you to achieve the very best times that can be achieved with the car entirely under your control?

Completely, I used to use the 'traction control' driver aid to get good drive out of slow corners without wheelspin but the acceleration just wasn't as good as it could have been and I tended to have a problem with understeer. Now I don't use it I'm more likely to stuff up a good lap with lots of very slow corners but I have more control over where the car goes. All the other driver aids on GP3 only help if you've no idea what the next corner is (i.e. racing line, steering help,...)+ the steering help limits your choice on which line to take e.g. through eau rouge, or if you want to brake a long way into the corner and so take a slightly straighter entry.

okay.. are there no other keyboard players out there? I have started working on my qualifying setup for SPA, best so far is a 1:46.219. Without driving aids.

Bad Dog; I only feel the aids are limiting me.. the thing I hate with keyboard is that you really cannot go quick without locking up, locking up. And doing a 1:48-1:49-tempo in a race quickly burns away the rear tires. And also, it seems you cannot disable the 'steering help' in keyboard mode, at least I haven't managed to do it. I guess wheel+pedals and no driving aids, and no steering help is the way to go..

and also, one more question.. do you guys cut the chicane before the start/finish line? it's possible to cut that one quite a lot without getting any black flags..

I don't cut the kerb at all on the left at the first chicane at the but stop but do use the right hand one. At the last chicane I find I can use the lefthand kerb much more than the right, if I touch the right kerb too much then I can't keep my foot down and just scrape the car down the right hand side.
Checkout my last posted hotlap to see how much I use.
