(A good reason for asking the question "Is the driver alive?" before asking anything about age, methinks)

Also, in the context of "20 questions", I think "animal" (as in "animal, vegetable or mineral?") is usually interpreted to include the human animal. But since we're only allowing Yes/No answers, the answer to "Is the driver animal, vegetable or mineral?" therefore always has to be "Yes", so it's not perhaps the most enlightening of questions. [/B]

Hi David,
I would have answered "No" if the driver had died before they were 30.
"Is the driver alive?" would be one of the first questions that I would ask.

I wanted to stick to "Yes" and "No" answers to make the quiz easier to follow and to avoid any arguments, though there probably will be a few in future quizzes.

I stated that I had chosen a driver, but from now on the person setting the quiz does not have to volunteer any information at all, instead letting the responses give information.

Is it time to pause for a minute and think about the rules we should have?

Because we are on the internet there are a few challenges because we are on an internet bulletin board and not sat round a table:

1. People are in different time zones and some people - eg in Australasia or USA may lose out.
2. We lose immediacy of question and answer, but I think we have to go with 'one question, one answer' as things will diverge too much if we don't
3. There's nothing magic about the number 20 - it just fits for a parlour game

I suggest that the equivalent of 'animal vegetable or mineral' could be that the 'questioner' names a general category: 'Current driver, retired driver, deceased driver, car, race, etc' This would save the initial four or five stock questions.

Any other ideas?

But at the end of the day, it has to be Graham who sets the rules.

But this "motorsport" does that not mean we can try and bend the rules and find the "unfair advantage" !!!??

Suggest that Graham ask another question, since the winner of the first round begged out. With the forum covering the world, there are bound to be gaps between questions and answers. I suggest that we keep the 1 question, 1 answer format, and also that we avoid to much "talking" in between.

I want to thank everyone for their constructive comments about the game.

I will do do some research on a new topic, and will let everyone know when I have chosen it, so that you can start asking questions.

I think that the problem with different time-zones will even out over time.

Hi Ray,

I think that if we decide to state at the start of the quiz what the topic is, I think that the number of questions should be reduced, if the "stock" questions are not to be asked.

So for the purposes of the current quiz there will be a maximum of 15 questions.
I have chosen a deceased driver, who was racing after 1980. (KWSN-DSM's question)

1 question asked - 14 questions left

Hi Vanwall,

That question is very difficult to answer with a straight "yes" or 'no" answer.
It all depends on your definition of "primarily" and "single seater".

Would you like to rephrase the question?

Bugga! Caught in the act! Can't blame a bloke for trying, though, guv.

OK. Was he best known as a driver of formula cars, ie open-wheel, single seaters?

Hope that does it. I've truly tried to eliminate deviousness this time.;)

ReWind,

Congratulations! Bob Wollek is the driver.

Would you like to choose a topic?

Is everyone happy for the person choosing the topic to state what category (car, driver, race, circuit) it is prior to the questions, or should everyone work it out from scratch with no hints?

Seeing how quickly this quiz was answered, I think 15 questions is more than enough.

Yippeeeh!

And now for something completely different!

I don't want to state the category. Therefore I keep the option of 20 questions to be asked.

One small hint: By saying "different" I mean "different"!

Where I live it is 8.30 a.m. now. So you can guess when I will be able to answer your questions.
