Bumping this old thread because today I stumbled across the French web biography for André Moynet himself.

It reads:

Enlisted as a volunteer in 1939, André Moynet took part in the Second World War as a fighter pilot in the FAFL. He was assigned to the Ile-de-France group with which he took part in the campaigns in Cameroon, Gabon and Chad before joining the Normandy-Niemen group where he commanded a squadron1 (115 air missions totaling 150 hours of wartime flight). "He is (...) the holder of 12 victories, 4 of which are probable, and has to his credit two damaged F.W. 190s and the destruction on the ground of two flak stations, a local radio station, a train, several trucks and light vehicles, not to mention the strafing of troops”.

A witness to the Stalinist system, he testified at the Kravchenko trial in 1949 in Paris.

At the Liberation, he began a political career as an independent deputy and became Secretary of State in 1954.

In 1953 he obtained his test pilot license and test pilot alongside his political career. He was captain for the first flights and tests of the Hurel-Dubois HD-32. He presented the Hurel-Dubois HD-10 and the Hurel-Dubois HD-31 in flight. On October 31, 1956, during an evaluation flight for the Brazilian Air Force, he was seriously injured when a Hurel-Dubois HD-321 crashed in the Bay of Rio.

Restored, he made the first flight of the Hurel-Dubois HD-34 on February 16, 1957. He then moved to Sud-Aviation where he participated as co-pilot alongside Commander Pierre Nadot in the Caravelle tests.

He joined the firm of Max Holste where he carried out the tests of the Max-Holste MH.250 Super Broussard in its first version with two Pratt & Whitney
radial engines.

He designs and gives his name to a plane from Matra, the Moynet M.360 Jupiter.

In 1968, he also designed and built a prototype sports car, the 1975 model of which finished first in its 1,601 to 2,000 cc category at the 1975 24 Hours of Le Mans with Michèle Mouton, Marianne Hoepfner and Christine Dacremont as drivers.

André Moynet was appointed reserve colonel of the Air Force in 1968.
Chairman and CEO of Establissements Saint-Chamond Granat in Courbevoie from 1967 to 1975, he was, in 1965, an unsuccessful candidate for mayor of Chalon-sur-Saône (Saône-et-Loire). His wife, Monique Moynet, was mayor of a neighboring village, Gigny-sur-Saône, from 1959 to 1965. In 1971, he was elected mayor of Biot in the Alpes-Maritimes.

André Moynet died on May 2, 1993 in Nice. His funeral took place in the cathedral of Antibes. He was buried in Biot cemetery.

Hurel-Dubois built a series of twin-engined transport aircraft with exceptionally high aspect ratio (wide span, narrow chord) wings.  The Rio accident in which Moynet was injured occurred on October 30, 1956, his HD321 crashing into Guanabara Bay near Rio de Janeiro during a demonstration flight prior to celebrations in Rio on the 50th anniversary of aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont's first flight. One passenger died in the accident and it appears the other occupants were very fortunate to survive...

Forgive my alternative interest but it always grabs my attention when motor racing and aviation (or naval matters) coincide.

Nice one: this was news to me. I saw an IGN Hurel Dubois (photo mapping) fly over many years ago and it was a strange-looking device.

Thanks Doug. I remember the push-pull Moynet M 360 but I didn't know Matra built the two examples, nor that Moynet had also designed a race car.

Edit: Great looking car BTW

More on Moynet's own push-pull M360 twin-engined aircraft initially built by Matra, while also mentioning his racing involvement, in this fascinating article here:

Doug, that link had a paywall. TNF member Motocar posted a cutaway of the Moynet Jupiter M 360 back in 2014 but the link to the pic no longer functions, like many older pic links on the forum.

A paywall?  Really?  Opens fine on my laptop - and I never know what I'm doing when it comes to surfing the interweb...

One of those things where the text fades to white after a paragraph followed by "Subscribe To Continue Reading!" etc. at least that's what shows up on my screen. Who knows?
