Shouldn't we have two seperate threads for these?

I don't know the World Superbike calendar, but it's going to be a hell of a thread if the races clash.

Wahoo! It did sneak up on us, didn't it - and I have the entire 2008 racing calendar on my desk!

I'm surprised to see the Ten Kate Honda's so far down. I'll bet Ben is NOT surpirsed by Tamada's location ;)

Shame really. Over 2 secs down on the other Kawas. Time to call it a day I think.
I though Max would be closer to the front on the Duc.
My money is still on Haga for the championship.

Impressed by Fonsi, Yukio and especially Badovini.

Lanzi comes right on a satellite bike and beats his replacement?

Lost Toseland, gained Neukirchner? I'm hopeful that the championship will be as competitive as last year.

Is this the first time that the Checa brothers been part of the same series?

Spot on Santori. I´m quite friendly with one of Max´s mechanics from last year, and he told me his bike in 2007 was very ordinary, as well as the team he rode for was run on a shoestring. I reckon he will be the man this year, now that he has a decent team behind him. I´m looking forward to seeing him make his breakthrough this year.

I heard on another forum that Honda only recently shipped their 08 bikes, so they're behind in testing. I don't follow WSBK testing at all, so I could be completely wrong.

Strange that (according to the commentators) his team regards him as the third rider. Or, rather, they did. I don't think they do anymore.

What an opener, great race, Don't think Biaggi is too popular, Haga should have known better, magnificent ride by Checa on an untested bike, Max N great for the 3rd rider and no testing.

We are in for a great season

Haga has a bit of a thing about Biaggi. I wonder if he'd have done that if it had been anyone else.

To me Biaggi is an accident waiting for a place to happen, he always runs in too hot when trying to pass and 90% of the time runs wide and lets the guy straight back past or like last year with Haga, runs into him.

Yes, so with Checa already within 10 seconds of the lead and Rolfo, Sofuoglu and Lavilla within 30, the season could become even more competitive. :D

Biaggi passed him and there was nothing to it, but Haga refused and touched Biaggi's rear wheel and then started to try and wave and then he screwed himself.

Sorry but haga should have known better, Biaggi is a tough rider yes but there was nothing to this one, completely haga's fault. And those were 2 great races, Biaggi suprised me he did very well on the duc, Honda will come a lot closer the next few races but i can't see checa being a danger for the championship, he just isnt good enough but that's my personal opinion.

I agree - some of Max's overtakes were a bit harsh but no worse than some of Bayliss attempts at overtaking Corser. In fact I can't believe Bayliss won the first race considering he must have made about 6 or 7 mistakes throughout the last half of the race. Can't believe he was still on the bike to be honest, any one of the small trips over the ripple strips and into the dirt could have thrown him off, not to mention the couple of Kamikaze attempts to run up the inside under brakes of Corser. He got there in the end so full marks to him but I'm sure he wont rate it one of his most flawless wins.

Haga - Now what was this guy thinking? Perhaps it would have been wise to complete the corner before taking a hand off the handlebars to shake a fist at Max.

It's so noce to see the new blood up there mixing it up. Nieto is there, Neukirchner and Fabrizio are thereabouts too, Sofuoglu and Rolfo will be there once they start work on the Honda. All bodes well for a dynamite season.

And a stellar ride from the old man, last on lap 1 to finish 11th on untested equipment

Seems one of the Ten Kate Fireblades only arrived from HRC this week HRC tricked to the hilt, and the first thing Ten Kate did was strip off all the HRC trick parts and put their own on because they are tried and tested.

Bummer for Foret, that guy has so much talent but is blighted by stupidity and bad luck.
And the Triumphs showed brilliant early race form.

Aaargh, he always does that and it's driving me mad that he *still* overtakes like that after all these years. You'd think he'd try to improve or rethink but it's very much something inherent to his driving style.

WSBK must give hope to all troubled series. Just a few years ago, things weren't looking very promising at all and now it's about the most entertaining series out there.

if it wasn't maxine giving up the lead on the last corner of the 1st race i would have said it was ducati xerox factory team giving a warning nod to sterilgarda. max looked so much more under control of the new 1098 than bayliss. what was the explanation of those front tire slides that bayliss had in the middle of the race?
too bad haga made himself look very silly. i guess maxine being infront is unbearable for him!
in race 2, fonsi must have been pleased to see yamaha and ducati team mates too hostile to each other. great win for him!

to me --
rider of the weekend: fonsi nieto
team of the weekend: sterilgarda
some cons: the colors of the bikes are so bland that you can't easily differentiate.
pros: great racing and hot, HOT pit girls!

Nice.
Nothing unusual in seing Stoner up front.
I hope it's actually safe for them to race.

Crash.net has 2 reports up about the night test. Is everyone at atlas sleeping?

'Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo was the rider closest to Stoner, the reigning 250cc world champion headlining an impressive opening day for the four premier-class rookies - who were all inside the top six."

Toseland is doing better than I was expecting him to do. I thought superbike riders couldn't ride motoGP bikes anymore.

"Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa, who used a softer tyre at the end of the session to cut his lap time."

"Seven times world champion Valentino Rossi
was ninth - and complaining about the cold temperatures"

Wow. I still don't see the point of this artificial 'spectacle' but I guess I'm a minority.

The point, well, it's just some business in the middle of some racing.

About the track being so 'cold', is it that hard to put a tyre into temperature? Can't they simply go softer?
Maybe Ben has some nice insight about what can possibly happen with a track so cold.

edit: Lorenzo's comments were interesting too, IMO.

Yes, he is supposedly in quite a bit of pain - plus he had set up problems
