one I leave it to Michael to give it a go.

Came across this Kickstarter today and the guys have one poster on F1 circuits!
I tried figuring out how many of them I could name off the top of my head and I think I couldn't even get to a half. And by the way, I never imagined there ever was any circuit larger than the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

And I can't think of any Indy 500 guys who fit the bill anyway.Except that it specifically mentions F1 driver.

Agreed. Pat O'Connor has 5 starts but he used the same car more than once.

Geoff Lees might though?
We have a winner! Geoff Lees it is - Tyrrell, Shadow, Ensign, Theodore & Lotus.

Another easy one I suspect.
Highest number of New Zealanders to start a round of F1 World Championship. When, where, who and what were they driving?

Well done Tim. I'll accept Williams as the cars were described in Autocourse as Iso-Marlboro-Williams IR1. I imagine that race was the low point of Amon's F1 career. Last on the grid and retired after 7 laps.

Name two formula 1 (or Grand Prix) team owners who also owned English football clubs and one other who was an honorary board member of a football club.

Robin Herd?

I wasn't thinking of QPR and I don't think that any of them honorary board member. Robin Herd (Oxford United) was one of mine. I couldn't object too strongly if richard wants to set another question though.

I believe Briatore was just an employee of Benetton & not the owner of the team. (Thankfully)

I have an easy question, at least the first portion. Back to the Can-Am, and need I specify the original 1966-74 series:
Who holds the record for most starts, and how many did he start?
Posted 27 October 2016 - 17:47
Denis Hulme 42?
Christer
Posted 27 October 2016 - 17:58
No Hulme didn't do the full 9 seasons.

Good work. You have the right guy but not the correct number

62 according to Driver Database ...

Right, I counted individual races from racing Sports Cars a couple of times, and found more .I didn't find any quick authoritative Can-Am record base. I think that source is reliable.

Picture quiz. What's this? Who's the driver? And why was he unlucky?

I was looking for an approximate number, so compared Driver data Base, WSRP and racingsportscars. Needless to say the difference is some DNS . I did check but missed a few and relied on racingsportscars for my total. They list a number of finishes where he did not in fact start. So 62 is the answer, I had 68 but the discrepancies are accounted for I think. However one looks at it Lothar certainly earned the title of Mr Can-Am, no one else comes close to his record 62 out of about 71 races total.

Well, the fact that you know it may point others towards at least part of the right answer, Alexey. You're a bit of a star, aren't you?
Posted 27 October 2016 - 21:17
I don't think that my speciality in motor sport history makes me one It's not any merit of mine, just a coincidence. So let's consider my presence in this thread as a hint that, I believe, may help someone to find an answer

A russian Bluebird copy from the '50s. The driver is
Alexey Rogachev Sr and due to the permafrost in
Sibiria he skidded off the road into a tall pine.
Christer
Posted 28 October 2016 - 10:01
Well, you're right that it's Russian. And the driver's first name actually is Alexey. Other than that, everything else is wrong!
Although I'm pretty sure the design was inspired by earlier British record cars penned by a Blue Bird designer. And the skidding off the road bit is vaguely related in two ways.

Looks like a Zvezda 5 to me, in which case the driver would be Alexey Ambrosenkov. Just guessing on the "unlucky" part that the car might have beaten a record in its class but was not homologated because the Soviet Union was not a member of FIA...
Posted 28 October 2016 - 21:52
It is a Zvezda, but not 5. (Zvezda is Russian for star, BTW)
So still not the correct Alexey. You're also close on the reason for his bad luck.

The only other Alexey I know who drove the record Zvezda cars was Alexey Podutkov whom I believe drove the Zvezda 3M whose photo I must confess I never saw.

Richard, I'm afraid that you are misleading the guessers. The driver's name was not Alexey

As the quiz appears to have ground to a halt, I'll start it up again:
Who is the only driver to have been disqualified in consecutive Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix races?

I can only think of Bellof, Brundle and Schumacher (sort of), but somehow I think you don't mean these ones

Checking my database, I found Vern Schuppan, and he is probably the one you mean, unless there is another one.

Checking my database, I found Vern Schuppan, and he is probably the one you mean, unless there is another one.
And yes, there is also Senna, as Tim Murray mentions. Furthermore, we have to add Johanssen, Button, Sato.
So now we have eight names. Which one of them is the only one and why is he different from the rest?
Bellof, Brundle, Johansson, Button & Sato could be excluded, being disqualified because of their teams.
Schumacher could be excluded because the results still stand, but the points don't.
Leaves Senna and Schuppan as the real contenders. I can't think of a reason to exclude either of them.
Posted 04 November 2016 - 21:20
What did Vern do to get the chop twice in a row?

What did Vern do to get the chop twice in a row?
First up, sloppy research on my behalf. I thought that being disqualified from consecutive GP's would be pretty unusual, so when I discovered that Schuppan had done it, I assumed that he was the only one.
Schuppan's disqualifications were in 1974 - Swedish GP (illegal start) and the Dutch GP (changing a tyre outside of the pits).

OK, so to shame Graham a little bit, how many drivers called Graham have started a F1/F2/Indy WC GP? And as a bonus, how many drivers called Henk?

I make it 3 Grahams. Can't come up with any Henks but I assume there might be 1 since you asked. Did you enter any WC races?
